I had always thought that I was a single solitaire tiffany style setting kind of gal......that was until I tried on a cushion diamond last weekend, now I''m sold. But this is where I need some help!

I know nothing about cushions and want to make sure that I''m making the right choice between a round brilliant versus cushion.

In terms of a cushion what should I be looking for??? What is the optimal cut, color and clarity for a 2.0 carat stone?

HELP ME!!!

Cushions, like other fancy cuts, need to be seen to determine whether it's a good cut.

I like to stay with G or better in color, because they can be a bit warmer than rounds. But that's a personal preference.

Clarity, you can get away with anything as long as it's eyeclean. No need to get anything above a VS2 unless it's your personal preference.

With a modern cut cushion, ideally the table should be in the mid 50's with the depth in the mid 60's.

You want to avoid a girdle with extreme variation, but some variation is ok. Stick in the medium range if you can, but most likely you'll be somewhere in the thick range which is ok too.

I would strive for excellent symmtery and polish as well, it can make a big difference with cushions.

And finally, Mark at Engagement Rings Direct in New York is fondly known as the "cushion king" around here. He has a great eye for them and has hand selected many of the great ones on this board. Mine included!

Welcome...

As a start..., while you mentioned Tiffany''s..., which Cushion (Novo or Legacy)?
Both have totaly different appearances.

Thanks for the info!

It was actually a Daniel K Dimple that I had tried on and I loved it - would that be similar to the Novo??

By the way - what''s a modern cut cushion??

Sorry for all the questions, i just want to make sure that I''m making an educated decision.

Thanks!

Well, there are quite a few types of cushion cuts, and many threads to go along with it if you run a search.

Mine is a modern cushion brilliant which can be seen here:

Boston Jeff''s is an "antique style" cushion:

And the picture is known as a "modified cushion brilliant", also a modern cut. There are literally hundreds of variations on these though, but this will give you a general idea of what you''re looking for.

Yes, it is closer to the Novo (a regular modern type Cushion) than the Legacy (a vintage type Cushion).

azbbzb,

If you have patience and are willing to spend time researching here on PS..., you can find most of the information you need to make decisions and move forward into this intriguing world of Cushions Cuts..., Its interesting but its a jungle...

Good luck,

Thank you - i''ve learned so much already - will continue my research.
