You guys seem pretty good at this pet-naming thing, so can you help out my friend who just found this poor fellow all skinny and lonely and wet from the rain? She was jogging down a foresty path (she lives in rural Ohio) and heard him mewing. Poor guy.

The vet says he is healthy except for being too skinny. And he joins siblings Yellow Dog and a fluffy cat called Elly.

So, now he needs a name. My friend likes 'Scout', but thinks it's not quite right.

Soooo... ideas?

Erps. Here''s the picture.

Oops! Nevermind. I misunderstood.

Haha! It's a 'he', my friend is the 'she' who was jogging!

ETA: Gotcha.

Just warning you, I like quirky/human names for animals. What about...

Winston (Churchill)
Moses
Tiberius (Tibbs)
Truman
The Cheat

ETA: The last one only really works if she likes Homestar Runner, which I don't think many people have heard of! But in case she does....

Trapper

Awwww.... that''s Buster.

Sebastian

I like two of the ones suggested already:

Winston
Tiberius

Good suggestions!

I also like:

Shadow
Cicero

scrapper
pepper

I''ve had two gray tabbies and named them Hickory and Hobby--I guess I just like the way an "H" name sounds.

Mozart - goes well with the M on his forehead.

I like the Winston suggestion

Mozart - goes well with the M on his forehead.

I like this a lot too. He does have a little M on his forehead!

Magellan

as in Ferdinand Magellan...explorer, navigator, discoverer...maybe it was your friend that was lost...and because of Magellan is now found.

I first thought of blazer...like trail blazer...then tracker...then hiker...but thought about one or both of them actually being lost...and thought of compass...gps...Magellan. Magellan with the M stamped on the forehead as previously noted.

DKS

Ptolemy

Buck....short for Buckeye. Ohio used to be called the "Buckeye State".

Moose

Or Trapper (I agree with Surf)

I like Mozart and Magellan (sorry, no original ideas of my own

) He sure is a cutie though - super huge kudos to your friend for rescuing him and taking him in, he sounds like he is one lucky kitty!

Great ideas, ladies! I think Winston, Trapper, and Magellan are my so -far-faves too. But I just thought of "Milton" Doesn''t he kinda look like a Milton? Well spotted about the ''M'' on his head!

I''ve passed along the list so far to my friend, but more suggestions are welcome!

Magic.

He sure is a cutie!

Mordecai

Montagu

Octavian

Lucius

Nimrod - (means Hunter)

I vote either Mack or Oliver.

But that''s just me.

That M on his forehead means the name should begin with that letter. So Mozart would be good, but how do you shorten that so it sounds for kitty-like? Mozi??

Again, Magellan is a consideration, but shortened it would be Magi which has a Christmas connotation, to me anyway; or Magie which is too girlish and would doubtlessly destroy his ego

Enough babbling on my part, I''m with nebe; Mack is perfect!!! It starts with an "M", and after he has meat on his bones, he''ll look like a Mack (or is that Mac?) truck.

A big thanks from all furbaby lovers for adopting that kitty

What do you think of Mocha?

I think Murphy would be a good choice.

DH is a cat lover, he says that''s a MAX.

I say call him LUCKY

How about Mo- short for Mozambique (his eyes kinda have that glowing green {at least in the pic} like a Moz Paraiba and it starts with an M).
