My sister is getting married and is having trouble finding a wedding band she likes.

The only one she has seen and loved was too expensive, so I thought we could help her find something similar. The one she saw was something like $6k.

She doesn''t have a picture, but it was similar to this one, except with east-west marquise diamonds instead of round:

I am looking for: 1) a detailed description of the band- is this "shared single prong"????; or 2) some suggestions on where she could either find a similar band or have one made.

Her engagement ring is a 4 prong round solitaire, width about 1.8 mm. So she wants something thin, but up to 2mm would probably be ok.

I am a jewelry novice on this site, but I do know that you guys are the experts! Any help would be much appreciated.

I agree that something like that would probably have to be custom and it would be very difficult to do under 2mm . Would something like these work as well?

Here is one very similar to what you want with ovals instead of marquise-but it''s pricey. I have a feeling the marquise may be as well.

Wondering if she can obtain her desired shape in metal...such as the ones CakeGirl offered from DS. Then using smaller round stones in the marquis shaped area.

Another idea as the others have mentioned while going custom seems pricey, there is an option to only do the upper part of the band-which would help keep budget down. So she can get the look she wants with perhaps only 4 diamonds of marquis shape and then use the metal formed marquis spacer in between the stones.

For discussion sake go back to the Pearlman example you provided...see the bump or spacer between the stones? Why not shape that bumper or spacer the same shape as the marquis...have 6 of those metal bumps and use 4 marquis diamonds. The metal would extend a personalized unique style and still achieve her fluid flow of marquis stones strung together in the eternity fashion?

If budget is a restraint, I would recommend using less amount of stones. (doing so does offer safety advantages as well. Full eternity may not be suggested while doing certain mundane tasks...HOUSE WORK for example that is in her future...for an eternity, arggh!)

I've haven't seen a band exactly like you are describing so she may have to go custom if it's what she wants. Custom isn't always cheaper though and if it's not something the jeweler has made b/f it could end up being more costly. Also, a bench jeweler will have to say if doing a single prong like the memoire you posted inbetween marquise diamonds is even structurally possible.

here is a beverley k from Pearlmans that is 2mm and is similar. the quality of BK settings is excellent and they will do customization so you might have your sister look at some of those designs and see if there is anything she likes.

Here''s exactly what you described from a uk site sparkling diamonds co and the price varies depending on the clarity and color of the diamonds and the metal (H-I SI = 665 pounds - about $1074 US? I have no idea of the quality of their workmanship or diamonds.

I second Addy''s suggestion of getting quotes from Brian Gavin - his work is well praised on these boards.

Thank you Addy, Cakegirl, Casablanca, MrsSalvo and HopeDream!!!!

These are all great ideas/suggestions and I will send them to her to get her thinking.

I don''t know exactly what she is looking for, so these are all good questions. If it were *me*, I personally like the one on the Brian Gavin site and also the BK one.

I have already directed her to BG and mentioned BK, so good to know I wasn''t too far off.

I think she is open and is just looking for something a bit unique to go with her ring, so not necessarily tied to marquise shape.

Thanks again for your help. I will definitely be back to show off what she ends up purchasing.

Pearlmans

Hope the link works. It is a Marquise shaped eternity...with metal spacers...I thought I created it myself! Ha. Pride cometh before the fall-seems I spend more time in the falling part.

Perhaps a contact to Pearlman and stating your sisters budget..he may be able to point you in the right direction?

I was trying to find you a picture and did find others in a google search using the term Marquise diamond wedding band. I have the picture saved on my desktop, but can''t figure out how to post it.

This photo I found, deep within the third page of the search I think...Some place with the name Harmony in the site. Had some in 1 carat and graduated sizes above. While that site isn''t known to psers, I would never recommend a purchase there...but there are images..and they were fairly inexpensive...starting at 1200. They used a v shaped prong on the ends of the stones. Similar to what you would use to protect a Pear Shaped diamond in a ring setting.

It was v shaped prong, marquise diamond, v shaped prong, air space, v shaped prong. This is more along the lines of the traditional eternity prong set we see with the round stones. If you could get a pic to you sister, I would see if she is willing to do half an eternity...of that style...if budget is still the bottom line. And contact a PS vendor with CAD for the work.

Thanks Casablanca!
