i haven’t had an ear infection since I was a child. Friday I was in the pool with grandkids and I got water up my nose and stuck in my ears. Friday night my ears started to hurt and by Sat I had a fully stuffed head, swollen glands, inner ear pain and sore throat. I went to immediate care and got an antibiotic and decongestant but my ears are literally killing me. :knockout:

I've always had some success with Sudafed (the old original one that you can only get from behind the counter with ID) and Advil. Hopefully you will get some relief soon!

For next time, a ttrick my pediatrician told me when the kids got water in their ears is white vinegar in the ear. It dries up the water. Feel better. Advil!

Ugh I feel your pain! I got one earlier this year and it was so bad, lasted a month and doc refused to give me antibiotics :x2 so I just kept cleaning it with saline water each night - spray on a clean cotton bud to dry it out. Fingers crossed it gets better soon!

I hope it feels better soon!

Last time I had an ear infection (it was just an ear infection), my doc gave me pain killers because the pain and throbbing every time my heart beat was
excruciating! He said it was the worst ear infection he had seen in an adult in a long time. Of course this was back before the big pain killer abuse so
not sure how likely they are to prescribe them any more. I feel your pain though...because I can remember how much it hurt! Hope you get some
relief soon!

Thanks, I have the Sudafed and ibuprofen. The problem is every two hours it wears off! Day three antibiotic better kick in. I read this morning that peroxide should help. Off to get some.

It will bubble and squeak! It might not be tolerable in a sensitive ear. :(2

:drool:VUrgh! I hope you feel better soon!

We are currently on holiday for 3 weeks at a Villa in Marbella (southern Spain) & despite the touch of luxury we have here, there has been an issue with the pool. In our party of 6, 3 are now on antibiotics for severe ear infections. My elderly mother in law actually had blood coming from her ear. Needless to say our Villa company have been all over it, the pool is now clean & re-chlorinated, plus a significant financial refund. But we now have 3 people unable to go into water for 7 days. There is a heatwave & it's been 41 degrees today. Ear infections are crap!

I totally miss my daily swim! Left side is still hurting a lot!

As a child, I used to get an ear infection every single year when the swim season started. Painful is right! :confused2: Did you try the peroxide? That’s what I used to use to help it clear up.

How are your ears now? Can you clarify if it is an infection in the ear canal or an infection in the middle ear? If it's ear canal and you pull backward on the lower part of the back of your ear it should hurt alot. A middle ear infection won't hurt when you pull on your outer ear.

Well today is day 7. I’m sure it was middle ear infection, no outside pain, just deep inside. My ears are a bit itchy but no pain today. My head is still stuffy and it went down into my chest. The good news is tonight I’m feeling on the upside!

Ear infections are the worst! I had the flu over Christmas which led to the worst ear infection I have ever had. I was completely deaf in that ear and the pain was so intense I was crying. The only thing that got me through was codine and paracetamol (I think it’s Tylenol in the US). I was sick for days and I actually vomited. The deafness lasted for much longer than the pain. I’m so glad you’ve started feeling better!

I'm sorry for.your suffering aprilbaby and hope this awful infection is over soon!!

I'm sorry threadjack, but I've been reading @DAF 's knowledgeable comments re. ears for a while now with great interest. DH has a plethora of different symptoms ( tinnitus, sudden hearing loss, with horrible loss of his inner ear balance system for a while). He's able.to.manage his condition OK and can zone out his tinnitus. But one symptom is a clicking noise (he sais like clicking two firestones together) that wears him out.
Any thoughts on that? Or just general tinnitus?
TIA

My friend is going crazy with ear ringing the last couple of weeks. The dr can’t find anything.i

Hi Kipari,

I have recently experienced the same symptoms your husband has. I went to an ent(ear, nose and throat MD) and basically all they do is give me hearing tests. So I had to look for a diagnosis myself. I match something called Menieres disease. It takes the form of an attack of sorts. MY body gets hot, I become nauseated, may or may not throw up, and am so dizzy , I must take to my bed. It goes away within a half hour. I have a hearing loss in one ear that comes and goes. I hear odd sounds(tinititus). Now, my other ear has a slight hearing loss that is stable(doesn't come and go), but I have auditory hallucinations, (my doc called it that). I hear opera played. I have no idea what it is, but it is beautiful. But, it is tiring as well. On occasion I hear a Gregorian chant. And sometimes I hear a fly buzzing.

I have really just, put all this together myself. An MRI was done and came out normal. Look it up for yourself. It sounds like me. The Docs tell me if I get a hearing aid the tinititus might go away. This is what she told me. With the hearing loss the brain fills the vacuum created by the hearing loss with sounds that are not in the real world. Amazing isn't it. I wondered about mental illness ramifications on this bit of info,. That's all I have for now.

Sorry April Baby for your pain. Glad its better.

Annette

Ear hurts! It is innervated by several nerves, hence, there are tons of nerve endings, but I suspect it is the trigeminal nerve that produces the worst pain.
Get better soon!

Hi Annette,

I'm sorry you're experiencing this!! I know for sure how frustrating the diagnostic process is. DH had his crisis several years ago and had all the testing imaginable and all the applicable therapies done... to cut a very very very long story short, his isn't meniere's in his cas. He decided to basically focus on identifying his triggers and avoid them. He's been able ro prevent another crisis this way.
However the clicking sound is the only thing that's wearing him out.our ENT Snot recommended a heaeing aid in his case, but we'll ask specifically in his case.
I send healing dust your way and hope aprilbaby is doing better already!!!!
