dear all,

i''ve been a lurker most of the time but love reading all your post. I enjoy the eye candy thread and would browse non stop, love all the pics!!!.

Now i have a 2.35ct J/VS2, set in a yellow gold basket. (this is the original setting from the jeweler as he feels that the yellow gold can cancel out some of the yellow tinge in the rock

) i have not got time to change the setting as i was working on my other ring...

however i want a simple setting for this diamond. Initially i wanted to get a eternity band to go with it, but this setting seem to not allow it sit flush. thus i''m holding back, should i get the eband? or change setting and get the eband?

the eband will RB be set in a heart shape baskets...suggestions?

the prong at the 6 o clock position seem to prevent the eband from sitting flush...

Beautiful ring and beautiful photos! I like the setting it is in. I can see, however, the problem with a band.

Personally, I would take it out of the yellow gold basket. Some of the four prong rings allow a band to sit more flush with the mounting. I have a PrecisionSet mounting that is designed specifically for the band to sit flush.

You can do a search here to see some of the settings that WF has done; I think many of them allow an eternity band to sit flush or nearly so.

I must say that I absolutely LOVE your setting!!!! It is sooooooooooooo gorgeous!!!!! I would not change the yellow gold basket in a MILLION years!!!! And the pic where the fire is shooting out from the stone with the gleaming yellow is

!!!!
So, I would really HOPE you keep it and consider getting a band that is curved out a bit. They make so many now that are geared towards 6 prong settings. Or, if it is not too much of a cost, have a band made for it. A simple shared prong or c.s. half eternity band would be lovely!

They also make bands that have a skinny bar where it sort of tucks under the ring and that may work.

Please don''t get rid of such a unique setting. It looks amazing with your stone!!

Beautiful diamond and the setting is really really lovely, but personally I would change the yellow gold basket. I have also heard B&M vedors comment on yellow gold cancelling out the color in a diamond, but I think that is false. Diamonds reflect the colors around them and it seems to me that the yellow gold could actually warm up the diamond? Besides, I have owned a J color diamond and own a K now, and neither of them ever looked yellow. Get a setting you love and that is as versatile for wear as you want it to be, and don''t worry about trying to change the diamond''s color. Is you don''t like the warmth of a J, no setting is going to change that!

dd is absolutely right. The yellow gold head will actually warm up your stone even further. I would change the head on your e-ring to white gold, without a doubt. I never heard of yellow gold canceling out some of the color in the stone. Haven''t you noticed that canary diamonds are almost always set in yellow gold heads, even on a white gold shank? The yellow gold basket enhances the color of a canary diamond and makes it a richer yellow.

At GIA''s Gem Trade Lab where they grade diamonds, all of the walls are painted either white or a pale neutral gray and when we as students go in to do our Lab work, it is requested that we wear pale neutral colored shirts (which of course are covered by a white labs coat anyway), but it''s because a diamond will reflect back all of the colors in the surrounding environment. Now, if your diamond is sitting right on top of a yellow gold mounting with only about a mm of space between it and the basket, don''t you think it will pick up the yellow of the gold?

Beautiful ring!
I really like the setting it is in, and I think that the YG head really makes it unique, but I can see where the 12 & 6 o'' clock prongs would prevent a band sitting flush. I think that I would try a 4 prong and see if that would help a bit.

beautiful ring, however hold off on the band if you are going to change your setting.

That setting is nice, but if you want a band to sit closer, you''ll need to change settings so that the stone sits a little higher and allows room for a band to sit next to it without hitting the prongs. This is a problem with a LOT of settings, so you do have to be careful. And I always prefer the prongs of diamonds be white gold or platinum even if the band is yellow gold.

I second this. I think a 4 prong will make it easier to get a band next to it... Plus, I LIKE the warm color of a J stone! Why not accentuate it!?!

Your ring and diamond are lovely. If you are going to remount it I would wait on finding a band to go with the new ring. The 4 prong would set better with a band.

Beautiful! Like others here, I would switch the stone into a white gold or platinum head and/or setting.

I love 6 prong settings! Your ring is gorgeous but I would probably take it out of the yg setting since I think it may pick up any warmth you may have with your stone. Maybe finding a set where the band sits flush instead of picking a band separately would be better.

Hi,

thank you for all your kind suggestions.

I stick to the 6 prong as i already have my 1.4ct set in 4 prong. The 4 prong makes the diamond rather squarish looking and thus it ''matched'' my radiant cut eternity band.

Thus for this baby i want to get a 6 prong and the eternity band will be in RB set in hearts. the jewerler have something like the one Billy Rosewood posted but not entirely the same. the hearts are below the diamond. i had to order make that eterinity band as my ring size is very small. i held back before committing though.

i agree the yellow is making the diamond yellow. however my jeweler says that since the diamond is not white there may be a slight tinge in yellow, instead of people discovering the yellow tinge, attribute the yellowness to the basket to hide its true color... that''s what he told me...

but this jeweler is nice, he offer me to change the setting free of charge. He ask me to wear this diamond with the yellow basket first and think twice as the re set is a one time off, i cant reverse and get back the yellow gold head.

what should i do?

A) reset to six prong white gold but with some allowance for the RB eterntity?

B) reset to six prong with yellow gold head but with some allowance for the RB eterntity?

C) keep the setting and get the RB eternity (i.e live with the little gap)?

I''d do option A, personally.

I would do A also. Gemgirl had a very good point about diamonds picking up the colors around them and throwing that color back at you.

While it''s a cool setting it''s not for you if you want an eternity to sit close to the stone. And I think the yellow basket gives the stone yellow to reflect.
