I asked Jogia for a video of them side by side too.
Sounds good Cindy!

Dear Lorelei and strm...(and anyone else who is well versed in step cuts)

Cindy I am sorry but I can't play the movie on my computer.

Emerald cuts are not as straightforward with rounds so much to learn and consider with them, for example storm has spent years studying these shapes in order to help the consumer, it takes time and lots of study and comparisons to learn to understand these shapes so it is always best to get his advice if you can - what looks good to the untrained eye might actually not be the best choice especially on videos. I will track strm down and see if he has time to look at the video for you too and he might be able to tell me how to view it too.

Thanks Lorelei!

Most welcome, stormykins should pop up presently!

Their videos require Quicktime 7. Even then i can''t just click the link and play. I have to download the URL from the Quicktime player. Apple sucks.... sometimes :P or maybe its just my lappy

The right stone just seem more lively to me, the contrast in the table and the ends of the stone. Center stone looks relatively dead, left stone has good center contrast but less in the ends. Maybe just lighting conditions?

That could be why I can''t view it, I will see if storm can help me see it later.

Regarding the videos, I can recommend QT Lite, it''s a simple, free Quicktime alternative for those of you that just want to play movies in your browser without having to put up with all the other garbage that Quicktime wants to install. It''s what I installed to view the Jogia videos when I was looking at their diamonds. Works fine.

You can download the latest version here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/QT-Lite/1182968126/1

Here''s the Wikipedia article if you want more detail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuickTime_Alternative

I''m new, so I hope it''s ok to post things like this so long as it''s relevant and it helps someone...

Thanks for posting the QT Lite. I was trying to run them but couldn''t figure out how. That was sure a pain. Now it works.

I do think you need a video of all three together. I''m not an emerald expert but do love them. I don''t want to give a wrong opinion so will also refrain.

Question: Does their 360 degree rotation in the video make sense? I don''t get it and it gives you less time to evaluate the stone.

I think the company should, where they link their videos, tell you how to open the darn thing and get rid of the 360 rotation. No?

I do also.
The lighting used makes it hard to pick one but it has more signs of life.

You''re most welcome, I wish I knew more about diamonds so I could be more helpful, but I''m glad I could be of some use

Top-right stone is my favorite there, lots of flashes of light! I''m curious if it might just be lucky positioning of the light... I''m interested to see what the expert opinion is!

Thank you fr all your opinions! i value them all!!!

I also really like the most right stone. I like the contrast, the sparkles (eventhough it might just be the lighting because the stones are not aligned in a straight line like Jon''s GOG videos...no idea) and the L/W ratio is my favourite. It looks very elegant!

I don''t like the middle stone at all, the .86 ct. I know its a different cut, but i thought emeralds are supposed to have steps and contrast in the middle no?

Also thanks to Lestat. I wished I had waited for your post before downloading Quicktime. Would have saved so much time and confusion LOL

The middle one is a very bright more traditional EC.
Not a lot of life but bright and there.
Larger table and low crown.

More traditional?? I thought it was a modern cut or something...

Thanks for the info strm!

I have never seen that cut in real life so it might be worth having a look when i pop in Jogia''s workshop.

You are in a unique position with being able to look at and compare the EC''s in person, I think once you do it will be clearer if any of these are for you once you see them.

Definitely Lorelei. Looking for an EC has taught me so much that I didn''t know before...

I don''t even know for sure now if I like the modern or traditional cut more... I HAVE TO SEE THEM!!! LOL

Or maybe I shouldn''t... I might love both types and end up more confused.

I think you will have a much better idea when you see them, EC''s are so different in person when you actually see them that I think you will know....
