Hello,

I am based in Europe, and buying my first diamond to propose :)

After some research, I would like to buy an oval diamond with the following specs from 77 diamonds

Carat: 1
Colour: F or above
Clarity: VS1 or above
Polish: Excellent
Simmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

Certified: GIA

Table 55-60%
Depth 59-63%
W/L: 1.35-1.55

I am really concerned about the bow tie effect. Can you help me source a good example from the ones below or any that you think are worth the bucks?

Diamond 1

Diamond 2

PS you can use the GIA certificate number to filter the diamond and see a 360 video.

Thanks in advance for the support!

Forgot all those stats. It's pure BS with ovals and most fancies. It's performance and faceting and appearance that matters. The numbers on a lab report are useless. You need pictures, scans and videos and the understanding of what to look for.

If you want "perfection" and no bowtie then your best bet is a BGD Hearts and Arrows You don't need F or VS1. An eye clean G VS1 would be a better range if you need a full carat. https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...oducts/1-041-g-vs2-brian-gavin-signature-oval
That said, if you go just under: https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/collections/diamonds/products/0-981-f-vs1-signature-oval This one is an F VS1 and it saves you 1k. For your purposes, this is an excellent choice. A safe choice. You are guaranteed a beautiful diamond with the BGD branded diamonds. And they have lovely settings too.

If you don't need absolute perfection, you can look for a non-hearts and arrow or non-branded faceted oval. But throw the stats out. Look for videos, ASET scans, and train your eyes what to look for.

There are literally DECADES of threads on here about how to buy ovals. Do some searches and research how to buy one. Ignore 77 diamonds. COMPLETELY.

Thanks for your honest answer.

However, i was searching for an european retailer. Why you do not advice to buy from 77 Diamond? It seems the european version of blue nile/james allen. If you have any other european alternative i would love to see them!

They also offer Ideal Cut Diamond. What do you think of those? Link

Anything that you would suggest in the or inventory?

If you only want to purchase local then you MUST see the stone in person OR lots of great photos, preferably a video. You should not purchase an oval based on the 'numbers' or just one photo.

I didn't say don't buy from 77 diamonds. I said, do not listen to their advice about fancy shopping

After some research, I shortlisted 2 options.

I would like to see both diamonds in person. However, can you give me some opionions from the videos in the website (77Diamond) and ASET map?

Diamond 1 (GIA + AGS): https://www.gia.edu/report-check?locale=en_US&reportno=2235018747

Diamond 2 (GIA + AGS): https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=6234098585

Thanks in advance!

Both of these stones look really nice. To do H&As on an oval they have to be cut deeper. Normally, I would say go
for the 1.19 if you can swing it but if you're in Europe where E-rings dont tend to be as large as here in the US.

Obviously, you wont have a bow-tie with an H&A oval.

Do you have the link to the spinning videos so we can have a look?

It is not possible to share unfortunaly. So i registered the page: Diamond 1 and Diamonds 2

However if you want better 360 video you can access their database, you can filter by the GIA report number and see the video (or just filter for ideal cut and above 1ct - there are few options).

Diamond 1: 2235018747
Diamond 2: 6234098585

Your input would be much appreciated!

Would you sacrifice Clarity to gain in Colour? I am afraid for the clouds (they are a lot) but the colour is really high witha great cut. Any thoughts or advice?

Personally, I would go with the 1.19. Unless the wearer is very color sensitive, G stones are very white and I'd prefer the higher clarity. It's all personal taste though.

well it's a pretty good looking Si1 in the video @ 77 and lowest price of the 3...
I like D color all things equal... since all 3 are "deep" even in the face up you can see the color difference..

I think they all look good in the videos.

Up to you to decide what is most important...color, size, cost, or clarity.

I would ask 77 diamonds if they can pull them and recommend one?
