My wife and I recently celebrated our 20th Wedding Anniversary. As such I thought now would be as good of a time as any to upgrade her wedding ring/solitare. Please let me know your thoughts on the following diamond as I have it on hold and can back out, if neccessary with no obligation. I am looking at diamonds in this size and grade. This is as low as I would go on color but I may be more flexible on a "eye clean" lower graded stone(SI1). Any feedback on this diamond or suggestions on other stones would be most appreciated. Here are the specs on the diamond I am considering:

2.29 ct
Cut AGS Ideal 0
Color H
Grade VS2
Depth 61.8
Table 54.7
Crown Angle 34.2
Pavillian Angle 40.9
Symmetry Ideal
Polish Ideal
Culet Pointed/None
Girldle Thin to Medium
Flourescense None
HCA score 1.4
Light = Excellent
Fire = Excellent
Scint. = Very Good
Spread = Very Good

The only flaw noted on the report is a small crystal under the table. From other stones I have seen, this is undetectable to the eye, but you might notice it under magnification. Is this pretty much the case?

Any thoughts are most appreciated. I just do not want to overlook anything on such a large puchase. Thanks in advance for your help!

Best Regards,
Doug

Sounds like a winner to me, Diamond Doug!

It is unlikely with an AGS graded VS2 that you will "see" any inclusions without significant magnification. Personally, I think that you can rest easy knowing that you have a good find.

You''ll have to show it to us when all is said and done!

If you wanted to comparison shop, Whiteflash.com has A Cut Above round brilliant diamonds that you can check out. They look pretty incredible as well.

Sparkelicious and Skippy,

Thanks for your quick replys. I saw the diamond referenced at Whiteflash and I have not ruled it out entirely. It scores very close (HCA) to the stone I am considereing.

I will wait to hear back from others before making a final decision. Thanks again and take care!

Best Regards,
Doug

It looks good to me!

What a nice upgrade.

Keep in mind that the HCA is intended to be used as a rejection tool, not a selection tool. You can use it to eliminate a stone that scores over 2, but a 1.2 is not necessarily better than a 1.4.

Are future upgrades possible? If so, be sure to ask if your vendor has an upgrade policy.

Looks like a winner to me!! What a sweet hubby you are!!!

Ditto!!

All who commented... Thanks for your feedback! I plan to purchase this one tommorow.

What is a good setting for this size stone (2.29 RB) ? We have been looking at a 18K Tiffany knockoff. I should not call it a knock off at almost $1000, but is is pretty much identical to the Tiffany setting and has a high quality platinum basket with six prongs and is custom made the the exact size of my diamond. Any other ideas would be most appreciated.

Best Regards,
Doug
