Hi all, wow there is a wealth of information here.... ive used some of the calulators and also looked at quotes of similiar diamonds but an individual here may give me exactly what im looking for.

I told Ben Bridge to overnight a diamond to the store im near and its a fancy cut diamond 1.5 carat VS1 H PC + AGS CERT. I dont have the dimensions yet but he also told me its laser engraved and comes from Canada. "Dont know if either of those make a difference" I also have the cert number, tell me if i should post that...

Ayways the loose diamonds price comparison tool on the front page didnt have any 1.5 princess cuts and the calculator may or may not be a wholesaler calc?

Id appreciace any assistance as I have attempted to find this info myslef but I dont wanna risk getting ripped off because I didnt ask a some pros on here.

Thanks, Ken

Also, if there is more info I should get from them about it, what do you think it would be?

Cert #1040367220002

Another important part. I told him 15 grand was my limit and we found a few he could bring in from other stores for that price "labeled in his inventory book at those prices" which he showed me. I told him to bring in 4 or 5 that we picked out together because I have a 2 week deadline since our vacation is coming where im going to pop the question. After I leave he calls me and says he found one with the quality requirements i wanted for only $12200... It must be a good deal because I was coming in to look at some for 15k already??? I dunno.

anyone?

The closest I could find:
1.33 carat G VS1 that got the top cut grade of AGS 0 from AGS.

Price: $7817.

Calculator do not work for fancy cuts, and that means it will not work for Princess cut.

here we go!

Shape and Style: CC Square Brilliant
Measurements: 6.29 x 6.17 x 4.62 mm
Carat Weight: 1.501
Total Depth: 74.9%
Table: 71.0%

This is the AGS report... does that help for a better quote

I’m not understanding your question. You’ve got a store who called in a stone for you of the above specs and, presumably, offered it for sale and quoted you a price of $12,200 for it. Right? What are you asking us? Can you get something similar elsewhere for less money? - yes. Can you get that stone from that dealer for less? - maybe, but the people to ask is going to be them.

For those who want to see more details, here's the link to the lab data on the stone.

The AGS-report is actually a DQR for a cut-cornered-square, not to be confused with a platinum report or DQD for a princess.

1.71ct F SI1 Cut Corner

Here is one to compare. Fancy cuts need to be seen to be evaluated. There isn't too much anyone can tell by the numbers.

Sorry to confuse... Im just asking if this is a fair price from a store like Ben Bridge. I know its AGS certified so they most likely are the correct specifics, I just dont want to overpay for something I could fing for much less. (And I dont want to online shop because its a wedding ring) If it was way overpriced id want a better diamond and still spend about that much, not ask for a deal on that one. Did I clarify well enough?

The main question is: what is important to you.

If in any way, the cut quality is important for you, then all that can be said is that nobody has any idea whether it is cut well. The AGS-report only gives you some re-assurance as for the colour and clarity being correct, but no grade on cut whatsoever.

It is even confusing to see that you are calling this a princess, while it is not, as it is cut-cornered. So, the other question is: do you want a square stone or not?

Live long,

It’s hard to say much about stores in your neighborhood because we don’t know where you are and ‘stores like Ben Bridge’ covers a lot of territory. I think you’re right in expecting the AGS Lab report to be correct in terms of weight, clarity and color and Bridge is quite consistent in their pricing from one town to the next. There’s no gain for looking into a BB store somewhere else if you’re happy with the staff at the one nearby.

That’s a search tool for searching a database of stones being offered by a bunch of dealers who advertise here. They’re all firm retail offers to sell you a stone. As far as I know, Ben Bridge isn’t among them. Whether or not these guys are ‘like’ BB is a call that you’ll have to make but it’s decently likely that none of them have a showroom in your town. The prices you get from these folks are highly competitive and even if you have no intention of shopping online can be useful for comparison shopping purposes. They're all legitimate dealers. In general, local stores are more expensive than what you see here but just how much more will depend on the policies of the individual store. It sometimes helps to print out competitive offers, including the lab documents for the subject stones and show them to your chosen jeweler as part of the negotiation. It’s even possible your jeweler will be able to get the exact same stone.

The corner cut swingirl posted was gorgeous, bigger, and less expensive. People buy online every day! I would get that one.

Thanks everyone, you all helped greatly. I will post what i end up getting so there is some satisfaction to be found since you were part of the decision making process!

Yeah the cut-cornered was not mentioned to me... it was presented as princess so thats a little disturbing. I didnt know that until i got the AGS report online.

I guess I do have one last question... what is the preffered table size for a cut-cornered and princess diamond. I know that too big or too small negatively affect the fire or brilliance but I have stared at enough diamond like you all. Does anyone have a prefference that they think makes the diamond stand out the most?

I don''t think anyone can give you a preferred table size for the fancy cuts. But I would be a bit concerned about a vendor being unclear about whether he was showing me a princess cut (square modified brilliant) or a cut corner square brilliant. Maybe it was an honest mistake or maybe you actually requested a CC.

So you don''t want to be able to utilize the ability to select from the largest possible number of stones to find the most perfect/highest quality stone for your budget... because it''s a wedding ring?
