Hello helpful PSers!

After the maid of honor dropped the ball, it's fallen on my shoulders to plan my friend's bachelorette party. She wanted to go to Nashville, so I guess that's the plan. The problem is, I've never been. We'll be a party of 6-7 needing 1 night of accommodations near downtown. I already know her two favorite bars, so that's not an issue. I have 2 areas where I need help:

1) Her two favorite bars are on Broadway between 3rd and 5th. We can pay almost $300/night per room to stay a few blocks from there and walk over, or we can pay about $200/night per room to stay about a mile down the road by Vanderbilt. Is it a huge hassle to get cabs in Nashville? I'm not sure I can justify the expense of moving downtown for such a short cab ride.

2) Any recommendations for restaurants? Most of us are foodies, but a few are probably going to be a bit short on cash, so tasty but reasonably priced suggestions in the downtown area, or out as far as Franklin, would be awesome.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I love Nashville!! cabs are plentiful, but even a short jaunt will set you back at least 7 bucks (I havent been there since 2007 so it might have changed) a really yummy reasonably priced to eat is Demo's its on Commerce St near the corner I think its either 2nd or 3rd St cant remember which...there are lots of fun bars down there...enjoy...sigh I miss Nashville I need to make a road trip soon...

edited to correct spelling

Hi VC!

One of my all time favorites is Virago. It's Japanese but has a lot to offer. Young hip owner featured on the food channel. He owns three places there very close together including Whisky River and Kayne Prime Steak House. Sunset Grill is good and there was a new place everyone is talking about... I will try and get the name for you tomorrow.

I always stay by Vanderbilt. It's a great area and close to downtown. Cabs should not be a problem.

http://mstreetnashville.com/restaurants/virago..... This is the best, most unique sushi I've had and I've traveled all over the US for business. They always have sushi specials and some of the rolls are cooked...so you don't have to be a raw fan. I love the rainbow box but only order one or two at the most they are huge! The Tangled Greens salad is awesome. For meat eaters they do a neat steak dish where they bring hot rocks to your table and you prepare your own strips of steak on the rocks...

Have a great time... The Pancake house close to where you are staying often has a few stars drop in... It's a Nashville landmark. Then also the Blubird Cafe' and the Loveless Cafe (longer drive but biscuits that will give you a heart attack)!

P.S. loved meeting you in Vegas... You are such a sweetie!

Cabs are definitely plentiful, don't even worry about that. The most you should have to do is grab one at your hotel and one going back from the bar-hopping scene late night.

I have nothing to offer as far as hotels; the last few times I've been, we've stayed with friends who live there. (We live 4 hours away.) You ladies will have a GREAT time. Nashvegas is such a fun town! Perfect setting for a bachelorette party!

Urban Grub.. Is the new place.... I've heard great things but I haven't made it there to try...yet...

Thank you, ladies!

diamondrnglover, Demos looks delicious and the prices are awesome...I remember a recipe thread way back that had a chicken with tomato sauce and cinnamon, and it seems something similar is on their pasta menu! :lickout:

Mayk, it was wonderful to meet you in Vegas as well! Thank you for confirming that staying out by Vandy isn't a horrible choice! It would save everyone quite a bit of money, and I know that would be appreciated after many of us have to fly down there! And you have got me DROOLING over some of that sushi! The bride is not a sushi fan, but she would LOVE some of the items on the chef's menu...that steak on rocks sounds right up her alley! Oh, and morning after pancakes would probably be very well-received! Especially if they came with a hunky country music singer sighting! :naughty: Urban Grub looks tasty, too! Thanks for taking the time to look it up!

monnie, thanks for confirming cabs are easy and plentiful! I think one of the hotels we're looking at has a shuttle that we can call, but I wanted to know we'd have a good backup should they be busy or not running it when we're there.

Speaking with one of the other 'maids today about the plans and then we'll get this booked and on the road!

I did my sister's bachelorette party weekend in Nashville last fall and we had a great time. I am going to go against the grain and suggest that you stay at the Sheraton downtown so you'll be in walking distance to Broadway. I didn't want to deal with cabs/people wanting to leave at different times/people wanting to arrive at different times, etc. Since we had 4 people to a room and we split the cost, it really wasn't all that bad. The cool factor has been upped even more now becuase they do a lot of shooting for the TV show Nashville there.

I had a limo pick my sister & friends up at the airport, which was my special treat to her. I didn't have enough room in my car to pick everyone + luggage up anyway, and I was able to stay at the hotel and decorate the rooms while I waited for them. (I live in AL, my sister & friends live in and came from CA)

We did a city bus tour during the day on Saturday, which I can't recommend becuase it seemed to be geared for a much older crowd. It was interesting and I learned a lot of country music history though.

We ate at Cabana and had a perfect time. They have individual seating areas with curtains that pull for privacy (Cabanas, duh :-). I worked with them in advance to prepare a personalized menu selection with a fixed price. We brought our own wine and just paid corkage. We had a dedicated wait staff that we super friendly. I've also been to Virago and loved it. You can't go wrong with either place. Neither are in walking distance. I booked a limo for 3 hours to take us to the restaurant and then drop us off on Broadway after dinner. I had never rented a limo before this Nashville trip. I was really surprised at how inexpensive it was for the personal service that we got. I used Adept Limosinues and worked with Tricia at Cabana.

Sunday we walked to 417 Union for Brunch (make a reservation in advance & confirm if you decide to go. They double booked parties but were luckily able to accomodate) & then walked to the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. Some people chose to come to the museum, and others stayed in their rooms or roamed Broadway again.

If you have any questions please let me know. I loved planning this weekend and have so many great memories with my sister!

The Pancake Pantry is super yummy but be prepared to wait during the weekends unless you get there when it opens. Last time we went (on a weekday!) the wait was over an hour.

Also, if your friends are true foodies Demos might not quite be up to standards but it is really good, just more on the casual side. The location could not be better.

New Shiny, THANK YOU for your suggestions and additional info! I am looking into Cabana, as it sounds like just the right experience for our bride-to-be! And thank you for mentioning Adept. I had found them as well and am considering the limo as an alternative to cabbing it on Friday night. Glad to hear you had a good experience!

So much good food, so little time! Gah! Why can't we have like 2 dinners every night!?!?

I am so excited for you! Nashville really was perfect for a bachelorette weekend. Luckily I live close enough to do girls' night out there a few times a year. Let me know if you have any more questions.
