Hi, I am looking at a cushion cut around 1 ct (budget +-4k) to go into a rose gold micro pave engagement ring and can't seem to narrow it down. I have done a lot of reading (this site and others) and am trying to get to a point so I can request ASETs from James Allen. Any help and/or recommendations would be much appreciated. Here is a link to what I am looking at:

Thanks

The I VS1

Here are the ASETs and comments

353715 - This is a true I color diamond that faces up white. Its overall symmetry is excellent and this diamond has the most attractive light performance overall. The fire and sparkle are excellent throughout, making it the brightest visually, and the diamond has a very attractive shape.
305746 - This diamond is a true H color that faces up white, and the overall brilliance and balance are also very good. This diamond has nice life and brightness throughout, especially through the center.
369830 - This diamond is a true I color that faces up white. This diamond was ranked third because there is only white light return coming from 4 points in the diamond and the rest seems to be dark.

In addition to those, as I have been continuing to look it appears that because the James Allen stones I have looked at are such high depth, the up facing on a 1ct isn't much different than the .7-.8 ct heart and arrow signature diamonds at Brian Gavin. Any thoughts on this?

Some examples:

The asets match the gemologists report, the third choice is very weak on the sides.

Personally I kinda like the H, 305746, because I think -715 looks dark. But if you want square, -715 would be the way to go.

BGD cushions are measured length x diagonal! The other cushions are measured length x side! these are much bigger than BGDs in the .7-.8 range.

Ahh, that makes much more sense now. Thanks for the clarification.

On the off-chance you're open to a Blue Nile Signature H&A Cushion, here's a beauty - 0.90ct D-SI1 with medium blue fluorescence -- budget- and face-up size-wise, it is within range of your JA selection, but for a rose-gold setting, a high-color diamond with some fluor will really pop... http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD04616523

I like the H and the Blue Nile stone.

I plan on having JA do the setting as well, the blue nile stone is awesome however.

Do you think there will be a significant difference between the H and the I? The price difference is $420 (the I being less) and I am trying to stay as square as possible.

There is a difference. Otherwise they'd both be graded the same. :wink2:

What setting are you planning? If it has pave the H is a better choice.

Also, why as square as possible? Slightly rectangular is very flattering on the hand. And the H is BARELY rectangular at a 1.06 ratio given that 1.05 is considered square.

But the I with the ASET above that the gemologist liked is a lovely stone as well. Between these two there is no wrong choice.

+1

Maybe I missed it, but what type of setting are your getting?

Please remember color is graded face down. Where there is no light return. Light return masks body color.
