So I have arranged to purchase this stone today...

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1239032.asp

This stone has a HCA rating of 1.4, and costs $11,800

But then this one was advised to me, with the thought that the visual difference between a 1.42 and a 1.50 is very very difficult if possible to see with the human eye.

The second has a HCA rating of 0.9, and costs $10,800.

Which diamond should I choose? Are either of these stones a better monetary deal of the other?

Is the smaller diamond a better light performer?

Do not use the HCA as a selection tool. It is a rejection tool. Lower than 2 are all worthwhile for further inspection like getting an IS.

That said, the BN SI looks good but no way to tell if it is a H&A as they do not provide the images.

I am actually indifferent to the H&A, the James Allen just happens to be 1.

I just want to make sure that the diamond I get covers the 3 issues most girls want. Size, sparkes, and white.

So H&A aside, is one better than the other? Is the AGS000 cert with a 1.50ct worth an extra $1k over a GIA EX/EX/EX 1.42?

Here are the specs of each below:

Option 1 - $11.8K
James Allen - Hearts & Arrows Collection
Cut: AGS000
Weight: 1.50 Ct
Color: F
Clarity: SI1
Fluorescence: Negligible
Girdle: Thin to Slightly Thick
Measurements: 7.33 x 7.37 x 4.55
Table: 55.6
Depth: 61.9
Crown Angle: 34.2
Pavilion Angle: 40.9

Option 2 - $10.8K
Blue Nile - Signature Collection
Cut: GIA EX/EX/EX
Weight: 1.42 Ct
Color: F
Clarity: SI1
Fluorescence: None
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Measurements: 7.22 x 7.18 x 4.43
Table: 57
Depth: 61.5
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilion Angle: 40.6

Both should be good. You are comparing between a difference in diameter of 0.1mm. There is also a jump in price at the 1.5c mark.

Note that BN do not have trade up and buy back policy if you ever need that. So, you have got to weight all these factor and decide if it is worth it to go for one or the other.

The JA looks like a nice diamond, the second from BN should be but no way to tell for sure without images. With the JA stone there is a grade setting cloud inclusion, check with them that it does not impact performance.

How can you tell that there is a cloud setting grade inclusion?

The inclusions are listed in the order of significance. Strongest, grade setting inclusions will be listed first.

Because it is drawn on the clarity plot and noted.
