Hi All:
I need help choosing one of these 6 diamonds.

I''ve got their HCA scores and all the information I could gather. I''d like you to rank them according to your top 3 preferences. I could have ranked them according to HCA scores alone but I''m not sure if there are any other factors I need to consider. (I''m very new to this and still learning) . When you''re done rating, I''ll go ahead and request their idealscope reports and sarin reports or whatever else you think I need to make the final choice.

Thank you all for this forum. I never thought I''d find such a useful tool when I started out looking for rings. OK, here you go- file is attached.

Thanks for your help.

I can''t see it...but just FYI, diamonds can''t be ranked by HCA scores. Either they are under 2 and you should consider the stone or it''s over 2 and you most likely shouldn''t consider it. Doesn''t mean that a stone with a 1.0 on the HCA is better than one with a 1.8.

I tried to attach the file again. I hope this time it attaches.

I thought it might not be right to eliminate them by HCA scores that''s why I decided to seek advice here.

Does not make sense for stone 2 and 5. Those are crown depth?

Ditto, what neat said, HCA is only used as a cut off tool.

Those with crown angles looks good in the overlap of AGS/GIA ideal.

Oh, I forgot to mention - they are all 0.7ct

stone 2 and 5 are in percentages instead of angles

Are all the stones GIA graded?

If so, I would go for stone 3, I prefer excellent symm than polish, but that is just my preference.

I guess my novice question is how do I proceed from here?

Why are they in %? EGL, HRD, IGI graded stones?

No- GIA but the customer service rep gave me percentages when I asked

Check with the vendors to make sure the SI stones are eye-clean to your standard.
Any chance of getting a IS for these stones? If not, there is not really much difference between them at the moment, and any of these should work as well as the rest from the numbers alone.

Yes- They are all GIA graded and it took me several days to get the information from customer service that I decided not to go back and ask for angles instead of percentages.

I''ll be requesting for IS reports but the maximum no of reports they''re willing to give me is 3 so I was hoping to narrow these down to 3.

Ssecondly I''m not sure what to look for in those reports but I guess I''ll have to wait and worry about those in another thread when I request and receive them.

Do you have the girdle measurement by any chance?

Without the girdle measurement, my choice for IS request would by 1, 3 & 6.

I appreciate your help Stone-Cold.

What difference does the girdle make?

Girdle for 3,4 & 6 are med-sl.thick
2 & 5 are sl. thick to thick
1 is thin to thick

Girdle thickness is to check if it is extreme variations, such as extra thin or thick which is not good and then I would not consider those choices. But the values all looks good so I will stick to my choices for IS.

I would ask for more info on 1, 3 and 6. Girdle thickness, as long as you avoid extremes such as thin to thick/ very thick for example and check with a trusted vendor concerning a girdle which might state very thin/ ex thin then you should be fine.

Thanks StoneCold and Lorelei.
I''ll ask for more info about 1,3 and 6 and I''ll let you know what I find.
Wow, I feel like a student writing a term paper or doing a science project, LOL.
