Hello Everyone,

I need some help. This ring has been passed down my family for a very long time. However nobody really knows much about it. Can anyone out there identify the era/style and possible age of it?

It is a mixture of white gold and platinum. There are no inscriptions or writing anywhere that I can see on it.

Thank you for all the help!

The ring with the main stone looks like a piece made in the 1920-1930 period although many were made far more recently, too. The main diamond does look like an old European cut which might help to say that the ring is authentic to the earlier period. I made hundreds in the 1970 through 1990''s with old cut diamonds which looked very old, so the photo can''t tell the entire story. The fitted wedding ring is added on and by the way it is set, I''d say it is newer than the first ring. I suppose they are soldered together right now, but might be able to be taken apart with little problem. Sometimes the wedding ring is attached to mask damage on the side of the engagement ring from wear, so check this out before taking anything apart. ALthough both rings could be platinum, the wedding ring might have been made in white gold. There also may be some gold solder used in the joining of the pieces or in some old repair work. Unless the original ring is platinum topped with yellow or white gold below, these were mostly made in platinum. We can''t tell about an added on wedding ring, but we could say the wedding ring was somewhat hand made to fit.

Dave, would the engagement ring originally have been worn with a straight (not fitted) wedding band? Or on the right hand and the band on the left?

Thank you, That is interesting. I will probably not take it apart.

I continue to be impressed with the knowledge and wisdom of this forum!
