For our engagement party on the fourth of July...I still need some kind of long sleeved coat/bolero/sweater since after the sun goes down in NM it gets COLD. I was thinking white or light blue. What else do I need?

Dress:

And my shoes!!! (So excited about these! BTW, if anyone is interested, the are on sale for $130 on Amazon!)

I actually think a leaf green cardigan or pashmina would look fantastic. Nice and summery. I''m big on green this year for some reason...

What about these draping shawl cardigans that are so in this summer? I bought four of them the other day. They usually come in many different colors. I''m thinking mint green might be a nice choice over that dress, too.

What kind of cardigan are you talking about? Link or pic? (I suck at this stuff...)

Where is your super cute dress from????

Here's what I'm talking about. The front drapes quite nicely and the back is short. You can drape them in 20 different ways, I'm told (though I've only figured out 3).

This particular one is from C&C California for $45, but lots of stores or clothing brands have them. I know DKNY has an assortment of colors for $160, but you can get them for a lot cheaper. I'm not sure exactly where, but I've seen stores both in NYC and in San Francisco that just have racks of them lined up outside the store and you can buy them for $20 or $30 a pop.

ETA: Here's a link to this cardigan on Bluefly.com.

^^ I was just going to recommend anthropolgie. I saw several cute things there a few days ago that might work.

Gap! I searched EVERY freaking store I could think of last night and then right as I was about to go to bed, I was like...Banana Republic...and that led to Gap. It''s super cute and cheaper than everything else I was considering.

I think I decided to wear the necklace that FI gave me for our first Christmas together. It''s a light blue sapphire in a thick bezel...about the same color as the shoes.

I''m still up in the air about what to wear over the dress, so if you guys have any other suggestions, that would be great!

i love that dress! i saw it when i was out last week with friends looking for an elopement dress (which i might not be needing now, i''ll know for sure if we''ll have to elope by oct.)
and you just posted about jewelry so that answers my question. i''ll look around and see what i find.
also, what are you doing with your hair?

No idea Squirrly. It''s long and golden light brown at the moment. I could use suggestions on that too.

What did you think of the dress in person?

And I don''t know what kind of earrings to wear...I was thinking something light blue too, but I don''t have anything, and I can''t afford much at the moment...

Stupid Victoria''s Secret''s site went down for maintenance just as I was trying to add things to my cart. Hate that!

Thanks MC! I''m seeing a lot of things I like in those links!

You''re very welcome! Not to fear about the site going down .. I think the sale goes until the 26th!

I like it--light blue always seems bridal to me, and fits with the color palatte! Pretty.

I think the new dress is super cute, but I do have to ask about what happened to the NM dress? Did you just want something different? This is more bridal looking, being white.

I can''t find those shoes on Amazon, but I am off to look better. They are so amazing! Definitely Freke-worthy, and just innocent and flirty enough to work with the dress, but funky enough to go with you!

The NM dress has been posted for sale on a website.

The shoes are "Betsey Johnson Gemma" in blue. They also come in black...

As for the reason to change from the NM to the gap dress...

I have been seriously wondering about my choice to wear a silver wedding dress. Would I look back and regret not wearing white? I know my mom would have wanted me to wear white. Is the silver bridal enough? Am I going to feel like a bride? And I''ve been spending my time looking at white dresses online at stores like J Crew, Nordstroms, Barneys, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, etc. I couldn''t exactly justify in my head buying two wedding dresses--one for the ceremony and one for dinner? No way! I''ve already done that with shoes. (And I can justify the crap out of shoes!)

Then I started thinking about wearing a white dress for the party and instantly began to feel better. Started searching for one, and ended up finding a whole bunch that I liked, and picking this one. I still love the NM one, but I won''t wear it any other time, and I can''t justify keeping it around hanging in a closet. So white it is for the party. I wanted something feminine and innocent, which isn''t anything like what I''ll be wearing to the actual wedding. But I figured this was more fitting with the feel of this party, and the guests who are invited (mostly older people that have been friends with one or both of my parents).

And I had loved the shoes for a while. Then they went on sale, and I had to have them. Of course, I didn''t think, "Oh, put them with the white dress, it''ll look cute!" until I had gone through every white/pink/gold sandal I could find and wasn''t finding anything I liked enough. Then I was like, "Well why not wear the white dress with the Betsey Johnson''s you''ve been wanting forever?" and an idea was born. I''m glad you like them katamari. I think they are very me--especially for this particular occasion. And they are very bridal at the same time.

The only problem is trying to explain to FI why I wanted to switch to a white dress. I can''t come out and say, "Well I wanted to wear white at least ONCE in this getting married business!" since he doesn''t know the dress is silver and all. So right now he doesn''t know that I''ve ordered a white dress, and I''m not planning on telling him. He''ll just have to see it when it''s on me. Lol.

Oh! And FI gave me a sky blue topaz bracelet for Christmas 2007, so I''m going to wear that too. Still don''t know about earrings though...

I totally agree that it will be good to wear white. As someone also planning a non-traditional wedding, I do think that it is important to keep some "wedding-y" things in there so that it doesn''t become something else entirely. And, I completely understand what you mean about wearing white. And, I think your dress is absolutely feminine and innocent. From your description of your engagement party, I also think it will fit the bill perfectly.

Hey Freke...I was in Gap today and saw your dress and tried it on. It''s great in person. It''s not too see-through, which is often the case with cotton white dresses. I wanted to buy it for myself, but the reason I didn''t is that it''s longer in person than it shows on the model. Maybe my body is different proportions (I''m 5''5 and a size 4), but the dress came about 2 inches below my knee. I would have altered it, but they would have to take it in at the empire seam, and I didn''t want to mess with that. Just FYI, and it might be different for you! It''s a great dress!!!

sorry i disappeared for the weekend,
i agree it''s a very nice dress in person, i didn''t try it on, but the material is good and it''s not see through.
i''d lend you my blue topaz earrings if i could

if you want to wear your hair up i''d say go for something dangly that you have and i''d say sparkly but i''m sure you have many sparkly things to choose from.
what jewelry do you already have earring and necklace wise. anything silver, shiny clear crystal, or pearl (or combination there of)? if you have a pendant you like, you could always find some ribbon to match your bracelet and make yourself a choker.

hair up or down? and would you prefer it curly, wavy, or straight?

i have an easy up-do that works well with curly hair that i did for last year''s birthday ball, and the girl that taught me how to do it has straight hair and just curled hers after it was up.

That''s actually good to hear. I was hoping that it would be longer actually. And I''m 5''2, so it''s all good.

I don''t know what to do about my hair. It''s a light brown and goes down the bottom of my bra. It''s naturally wavy in a yucky way, but it holds curl ok and straightens out really well.

I don''t really have a ton of earrings. Eek! As for necklaces, I was thinking of wearing the little light blue sapphire bezel that FI gave me.

Do you have a pic of the up-do?

sorry it''s a kissy pic, but that''s the only time they didn''t get my face, i''ll look to see if there''s any that show the full back of my head in my friends'' pics
and the necklace sounds perfect!
