Hi All,

After purchasing the perfect diamond from GOG (waiting on delivery right now - so excited), we've been looking around for a setting. The only one we've seen that we're 100% sure on is one we found in a local jewelers. After speaking to them, we found out that they won't mount our own diamond in the ring (we're super disappointed). So basically, we're trying to find the brand of the ring online so we can buy it online or take the brand name to a jeweler who will mount our own stone. Is it rare for places to not want to mount our own loose stone?

Here's a picture I found on their website, but there is no additional information. Looks like there's an engraving, not sure what it says. The only other thing I found was that on their website the product code began with an FL though this might be an internal thing as searching that code online has yielded no results.

The lady in the shop said that it's an italian style...I'm not sure if it is or not, but that might help narrow down the search. I've been searching on line for hours and we can't find anything like it.

Thanks in advance!

Did you ask GOG if they could recommend a similar setting?

Nope, but I was going to try that on Tuesday, since they're closed for Labor day weekend now. I was hoping there would be some eagle eyed setting experts lurking on the forums haha :geek:

Even if you could buy that setting, I would recommend you get the setting from GOG for ease and peace of mind. The prongs on the setting you posted are quite large. It looks like a pave setting with a 4-prong head, not anything out of the ordinary, James Allen has a lot of pave settings, here's a few for example:

It's a shame really as the photo I posted doesn't really do it justice. There's a really lovely shape where the two sides of the ring curve up to meet each other - it looks a little like a flower.

What would be the reasoning for getting the setting from GOG? how would I get it set given that I'm in Canada and the stone will be here with me in a few days? Send the stone back to them for setting?

What terms should I use to search for this stone? 4 prong pave?

Thanks for your help

It would have been much better for the stone to have stayed with Good Old Gold to set. Most jewelers aren't going to want the liability of potential damage to a diamond during setting when they did not sell the stone, and you are very unlikely to find someone to set it when they didn't sell the stone or setting. That is not a hard setting to find, although the prongs can be done much better than the ones in that picture. If the stone has not shipped yet, I would tell them not to ship it and have them set the stone.

You can also buy the setting from this jeweler and send it to Good Old Gold. But only consider that if they will order the setting in her ring size and with a head that specifically is made for the size of your diamond. And GOG will charge a setting fee when they do not sell the setting.

Check out the Gabriel & Co website, GOG carries their brand and they have a lot of pave styles. I think the prices are normally a tad less than what you'll see on the Gabriel site.

And this doesn't quite look like the one you posted but I think it's gorgeous:

This worries me. I don't want to be stuck with a stone I can't mount! Luckily it's not left GOG yet. We're also planning a trip to NY in a few weeks. Im not sure if they'd still set the stone if we took it back then?

Do most jewelers sell mounts on their own without diamonds? We really like the mount we saw but we're kinda scared to ask if they'll sell the mount individually after being told rudely that they won't set our diamond. Especially since it could crack when being mounted. Is this just sales patter? I wonder if I offered them money just for the mount how they could refuse, even if they ordered it in to size?

Thanks again!

Sorry stargurl78, I didn't see your post when I replied.

Some of these are lovely, the first one is getting close to what we were looking at. We're really nervous about finding someone to set our stone now, even if we find the mount

So why not have GOG set it in something that they can get for you? I'm sure if you send them pics of the inspiration setting, they could find something similar that would work for you.

Sure, I think I'll email them tomorrow to find out if they can look for a setting that is similar or if they'd have any problems with me bringing the diamond back in person to mount, either in one of their rings or one we've purchased.

Any idea how long a ring like this would take to mount? We're going to be in NY for 1 week. Wondering if that'd give us enough time?

Yes-that would be plenty of time for them to mount your stone. If you use a setting purchased from another store GOG will charge you a fee to mount the stone, but if you buy a setting from them no fee. Double check with GOG though because policies may have changed.

Will you be staying in New York City? GOG is about an hour and 10 min. away from the city by car, and about the same time if you take the Long Island Railroad, plus the the short walk from the station to GOG.

Yes, we'll be staying around Grand Central area, but heading out to GOG shouldn't be a problem proving transportation is good.

I'm also planning to propose while we're away... So it's all getting very exciting and real right now :)

Congratulations on your proposal!

Yes-transportation to GOG will be easy. From Grand Central you can take a subway to Penn Station. From there take the Long Island Railroad to the Massapequa Park Station and when you get off walk one block to Sunrise Hwy, then left down Sunrise I am not 100% sure how many blocks but I estimate about a 15 minute walk from there or you can take a cab as there are always cabs hanging around the LIRR stations.

I hope you have a great trip!
