After 5 years of *seriously* wanting a pair of diamond studs... I got a bonus at work yesterday, and now have an extra $1000 sitting in the bank!!! YAY!

So... help me pick out some studs!

Any suggestions for what I should get with the 1K?

If you think you might want to upgrade them in the future, I''d go with WF since they have the best upgrade policy for their in-house stones (which are also great looking diamonds).

Hi,

With your budget, I would with purchase a pair of WF's ready to go pairs OR call them and ask if they have any of their Expert Selection stones within your budget. I checked their online database and couldn't find any diamonds there (that are ES), so the next option would be to call them.

You should be able to find a great pair of .50 total weight for under $1K. I paid less than that for my first pair of studs and loved and wore them for four years before upgrading them. They're a great every-day size.

ETA: for under $1,000, WF has a pair of ready to go's in .70 in white gold, I color, SI1. I would get those!!! (be sure to click over to White Gold. Seems the link I posted pops up to settings in platinum, which are more $.)

Ditto! I''d look for some ideal cut, I-J, SI diamonds to maximize your budget.

I wonder how many people will actually upgrade their earrings. I mentioned to my husband that in four years, it''ll be time for me to get bigger earrings (.75 each) and he told me that they would look out of proportion! lol

I would gladly upgrade my earrings anytime. 1 carat on each ear is very pretty.

Good question. I didn''t want to hijack this thread so I started a new one here.

Over the past 10 years or so, I''ve upgraded twice and now wish I''d only done it once! I first had .50 ctw that were pretty and I wore them for years. Then about 3 years ago, I bought a new pair of 1 ctw (and kept the .50 ctw for my daughter). Then last year, I traded the 1 ctw for 1.5 ctw. I wish I''d kept the 1 ctw. They were a better size for me, personally. Sometimes I think these 1.5 ctw are too much. None of these were certified stones--they were bought at local B & Ms (before I knew about PS) so I really don''t even know what quality they are. They are eye clean, and I''d guess they''re H-I stones and probably SI1 or SI2.

I''m now thinking that my next recycling project will be to bezel set my .50 ctw earrings, so they''ll look a little larger than they do now, but won''t be as large as the 1.5 ctw I now wear almost every day. I think the ideal size for me would be between .80 and 1.0 ctw ACAs from WF.

Buy from a vendor that lifetime upgrades, you will be Thankful in the future.

Congratulations!!! on the bonus. I think diamond studs are the way to go. I bought my first pair when I was in college. Then after marriage etc. I upgraded them. So I''d go with a vendor with an upgrade policy. Mine are uncerted but look pretty good even through the loupe. I''ve worn them alot and always go back to them.
