Help me find something similar to this setting please!

I've participated in lots of setting searches, but I've never seen a setting similar to that one.

Is going custom a possibility? A lot of PS'ers have asked David Klass to come up with "similar to" settings for them - you might ask him whether he can take on this setting, and what would be involved. (David Klass Jewelry, Los Angeles. He's on facebook. I've never worked with him so don't know the best way to reach him.)

Thank you -- that's certainly a good idea that I may explore. I really want to find something "off-the-shelf" if possible though. The other setting she really liked is this one, but it's a Tacori and pretty pricy. She's very set on the emerald cut, and wants the ring to be unique (not one-of-a-kind, but not just like everyone else's).

Anything similar to this one that isn't so expensive?

If she is set on the James Allen ring then go get that ring. I believe that a good bench jeweler will be able to deliver that ring in a size 9. A good bench jeweler has all sorts of tricks (replacing a third of the shank if necessary) to get to the right size.

No big deal, if JA can deliver a size 8, a bench jeweler will take you to size 9.
 
Did you speak with a rep? Or are you basing this off the drop down box on their site?

I see the box only goes to 8, but I'd be surprised if they wouldn't do it for you of you asked. They may charge a little more, but they are fairly accommodating
 
Check out Diamonds by Lauren. They've done a lot of halo'ed emerald cuts. If they don't have a ring in stock, ask David about the possibility of a custom ring.

I did. The rep was very clear that they used to do larger sizes but won't do them any longer b/c it will take 4 weeks to do and then we'll be outside the 30-day return window on the diamond. She seemed fairly confident that this was a recent change in policy and not flexible.

The idea of sizing to a 9 is a good one after the fact, I may go that route, but I'd hate to mess it up and not have any opportunity to fix it.
 
I'd call back and speak to someone higher up. The 30 day return period shouldn't start until the completed and sized ring is shipped to you.

Maybe James Allen Schultz himself can comment? He posts here, right? This seems like a very easy issue to solve.
 
That is a beautiful ring, and so unique! If JA cannot size it for you (which seems silly), then I'd second getting it sized afterwards.
 
I wish JAS would respond -- and I will call them back to try again. She REALLY likes this ring.
 
Yes ask to speak with someone else. I guess that could be their policy, or maybe that setting being sized too large will compromise they design, but I've seen them customize complete rings, I would like to know why they can't size this one up one size.

If they say it would compromise the integrity of the ring, I wouldn't buy it and size it elsewhere.

I don't think it's an integrity thing, the person specifically mentioned that it's just a timing/warranty issue. I'll give them another call.
 
If you look at the completed rings, the rose gold pillows on the underside of the shank extend to over half of the shank. I'm guessing JA doesn't want to mess with this design feature, which means that all the sizing has to take place in the remaining portion of the shank. If JA won't take on the re-sizing, I would not take the chance of having someone else do it .

But... it does make me wonder whether the rose gold pillows could be shaved down to give you the extra room you need... :think:
 
I agree, I would really hope that this could be worked out, and the rep was just uninformed. Let us know how your call goes!
 
Called again, same result. Really disappointing since someone told me over their online chat service a few weeks ago that it would be possible. I asked the rep to double-check, she asked the "design team" who confirmed that the design of this particular setting could not be sized up. Back to the drawing board...
