Wife is asking for a pair. She doesn''t ask for much usually, so I thought I''d get her this for her BD. :)

Of course she really doesn''t know about quality differences, but she does like her D/VS2 engagement ring alot.
Thinking of getting studs D-G, VS-SI, round, screwback WG, about .75-1.0 carat TW.

My thinking is that a very good cut G/SI2 would look a lot nicer than poorer cut D/VS1?

I''d appreciate any leads or other information you folks could offer on where to
narrow my search to or the going prices. Is enhanced worth considering?

Agreed, however you do realize that the pair of earrings you reference on Overstock does not provide any sort of reference to cut quality? In fact, I don''t even see a link for the lab report

"Lab graded by IGL" Uh yea, I''ve been in the trade since 1985 and I had to look that lab up via Google to see who they are because I''d never heard of them before... "Lab graded" doesn''t necessarily mean "good" there is a lot that depends on who is grading the diamond and what their standards and level of consistency is, for this reason I strongly prefer the AGS and GIA laboratories here in the U.S. or HRD out of Belgium.

Ask Overstock for proportions information (this should be a riot!) I''d like to see them step up to the standards set forth by the vendors here on PS in terms of providing "actual" information for the products being sold. Here''s what you need to make an informed decision and find a pair of G/SI-2 puppies that will face up nicer than a poorly cut pair of D/VS-1:

Proportions information providing total depth; table diameter; crown angle; pavilion angle; girdle thickness; culet size.

Polish / Symmetry grades

Clarity images so that you know the extent of the inclusions... Not all SI-2 clarity diamonds (or any other clarity for that matter) are created equal.

Most of the vendors here on PS will provide you with these details and many more such as images of the diamonds as seen through a Gems Fantasy Scope (for Hearts & Arrows); an ASET scope; an Ideal Scope; along with 3D proportions modeling and such. We don''t have what you''re looking for at the moment, but there are many excellent vendors here who are likely to have it - run a quick search via the diamond search engine and if you see a vendor with a few stones in that weight category ask them to try and find a well matched pair for you. It''s worth the few extra minutes and attention to detail - my fiance''s diamond earrings are zero ideal cut rounds and she gets stopped by people all the time because they show up from across the room!

I just looked at Rap to get an idea of pricing for such stones at cost for decently cut diamonds. Well over the asking price on overstock. Chances are that in comparrison with a top tier lab report the stones you are looking at are both poorly cut and ridiculesly over graded.

You might try ERD...they have .7-.75 ctw H/I SI+ for $975. I guarentee you'll get much better cuts
than from Overstock. I think you can probably tell ERD what you want...specific cut parameters, no
visible black inclusions, etc and they will track you down some beautiful stones. You can post the
specifics on the stones and pics on this forum. PSers will let you know if you are getting well cut
stones or not.

Edit - James Allen also has a tool where you select the setting, then give the size you want and a budget and
it brings up diamonds that fit your specifications...you might try that.

you might try whiteflash.com
I wrote a reply about them to your original post which was in the wrong forum. I bought from there and have been very happy.
I think the jeweller who actually made my earrings has moved from them and is at BGD (Brian Gavin Diamonds) so probably either place would be fine--you should call and get a quote.
Overstock is not a good idea.

Thanks for all the advice. I tried, I really tried other places, but it would have cost me double what I paid
and even if the stones might have been technically better, to me, it was too hard to justify on something so small.

I got the 3/4 H SI for a final cost of $625 delivered, after a coupon.
Certified as so, stating excellent cut. Included appraisal retail replacement just over double what I paid.

They are very sparkly, bright and clean, and I''m happy. I assume the wifey will be as well.

If you are happy with your purchase than that is all that matters!

I am sure your wife will love the sparkly earrings.
