In my ongoing quest to find the right diamond for an engagement ring for my soon to be finace, i am turing to you here for help.

I''ve been dealing with a diamond broker here locally in Toronto, however i''m just not fully staisfied with what i''m finding. A lot of these stones only come with pre-certs and don''t provide the full Sarin type numbers to help identify what are the truly good stones that preform the best.

And so i now turn to the internet and ask for your help in stone shopping. I am willing to make the drive to Buffalo to pick up the rock (unless someone can point out help locally in Toronto or a Canadian vendor).

These would be my approx requirements: (but i always welcome input from you lot)

Budget ~ $3K USD
Type: Round Ideal Cut
Size: .75-.80 ct, my girl has a ring size of approx 3.5!! (TINY RING FINGER)
Clarity: prefer vs2-vs1, lowest would be a very clean SI1
Colour: around F (range G-E)

The stone will be going into a channel set platinum ring. The ring will have three .05ct diamonds on each side.

Let me know if the is any other info i can provide that will help in the selection.
Thanks in advance!

Can anyone tell me why this only got a GIA VG cut rating as opposed to excellent?
According to the AGA cut grading, this scores a 1B only because the Pavillion Depth is slightly short, otherwise it would have been a 1A.
On the cut adviser, it scores a 0.7 which tells me the stone should have a lot of life?
The stone has an excellent price, anything i should be weary of or that i'm not seeing?

Regarding that emperor needs new clothes story...you know...he would have actually been ok, except for that pants missing thing.

It''s not answering the substance of your question, but when you run the cut advisor, you see how this option falls just outside the border of where it would qualify as Ex vs VG...likewise, just outside the same border for AGS0 candidacy. But, on the good side of the border.

Regarding the HCA score, Garry has had hot flashes in his interest in defending scores running 0 - 1 on the HCA. Storm and Jonathan are prominent in warning that some of them are problematic, and the rest of us frequently prefer not to go there and often just shy away from them...but they''re probably usually swell. The 40.4 pavilion, though, is a known borderline pavilion angle.

Hopefully you''ll get other feedback. I''d say it''s at least promising, but if you''re not on a tight time schedule, and would just rather avoid any controversy, you could keep looking.
