Hello All,

I got engaged on June 15th with an anique style cushion set in Leon Mege's classic platinum double claw solitaire. We just decided to get married THIS Labor Day weekend and I am in need of help for my wedding band (s). Since I do not really know what I want yet and money is tight because of the recent ER purchase and upcoming wedding (we are financing it), I was flirting with the idea of getting something fake until I decide what I want. As of now, I want to pair a very thin eternity band with another very thin black eternity band.

I know that some people here have very strong opinions on the topic and, if possible, I would like to avoid turning this into a heated discussion regarding the merits of fake diamonds.

One thing I would like to know is where can I see fake eternity bands in person in NYC and how do fake eternity bands handle normal wear and tear (I will probably not take them off to wash my hands).

Please let me know if you can assist me and thanks so much for all of your guidance and kind words over the past year!

We aren't allowed to discuss diamond simulants, but I can tell you I've had pretty good luck with cheapie things from Overstock.com, plus shipping is cheap and returns are easy. You could order 10 different rings and return 9, no questions asked. I'd guess any dept. store would have fairly inexpensive fakes that you could try on in person. Also, Diamond Bistro often has good deals on real diamond eternity rings, and some fakes, too.

Edited to say: I forgot to add, be careful what you wear next to your ring. I wore a cheap steel band next to my white gold ring and scratched it up really good. It was able to be polished out, but still. Might be worth it to get a 1-1.5mm spacer from an Etsy seller.

Talk of fakes is against PS's rules - just putting that out there.

BUT you have plenty of excellent alternatives. For starters, for a wedding band you plan to wear all the time, I'd actually counsel getting a plain band. If it's something you don't plan to take off, you don't want the fuss of pave, or the chance of trapped dirt irritating your skin (yes, this can happen - maybe not for years, but when it does, it is massively annoying to have to take off all your rings for a couple of weeks while it heals). If you do want a more decorative band, have you considered getting something with semi-precious stones? ID Jewelry has gold and platinum bands with earth-mined stones for roughly what you'd pay for a fancy fake at Saks or Bloomies. Worth considering ....

I had a sterling silver/sim band that held up super well until I figured out what I want. I'm sure Macy's has something to tide you over. I would advise getting something in silver and not a fake metal.

Hi RubyBeth,

I am so sorry, I did not know that we could not discuss fake diamonds (I am a bad pricescoper!!!). I did not even think about Overtock and I will check out Diamond Bistro for sure. Thanks so much!

Also Dover and Israel Rose are places to look. I also bought 2 full eternities off eBay in the low $300s. Look for Buy it now with "Or Best Offer." All my best offers have been accepted............... You have to wade through some junk, but if you put in the time you can find some lovely pieces. I do "wedding bands," THEN choose vintage on the menu on the left, then Buy it now, then rank low to high.

If you don't know what you want and need a wedding band fast, go with a plain band. E-weddingbands.com has great prices and fast customer service. Hope this helps!

I wouldn't go with a fake band just because of the symbolism of the wedding band - if you know what I mean. I'd get a simple gold or platinum band. Once you're able to upgrade you could still use the original band when you go on trips or do other things for which you wouldn't want to wear your blingier band.

I bought a pre-owned band for my wedding band because money was really tight for us too. We paid for our own wedding. I NEVER EVER thought I would be so attached to a piece of metal and fully expected to replace my wedding band with a new eternity later on. Nope. I am thrilled I was able to afford the band I got because I am totally attached now.

I would go for a 400-500 band and wear it and keep it. Even if it's just a plain platinum or an engraved platinum band.

I got married with a spacer that I can keep and wear when I get my "real" band.

A gentle reminder that we do not allow discussions of fake stones. Please keep the discussion on how to help the OP find a reasonably priced NON-simulant band or we will need to close the thread.

What's ur size and I'll look for an eternity on eBay.

Webdiva recently got a lovely, fairly inexpensive diamond band from Lauren Klein:

I can also recommend www.e-weddingbands.com for plain bands, it's where my husband and I got our bands, mine is just a 2mm comfort fit, I think it was $125. There's this 2mm platinum flat band for $295, could make a good spacer for an eventual eternity band: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/platfl2info.html Or a 14k gold 1.5mm band for around $100: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/product168149.html
