Help me find a stone? Suggestions? Emerald cut (overwhelmed)

Hello everyone.

I posted an ASET and IS image for a emerald a few days ago, and got some GREAT advice on this forum and based on that advice have decided to pass on that particular stone. I've found 3-4 more that look like they have potential, but before I either buy or ask them to get me additional photos, videos, or images I would LOVE your help to see if there is anything better that I'm not seeing (I don't want to waste any vendors time and I would like to get your expert opinions since I am definitely not one)!

A little bit about my project: I am looking for an emerald to set East/West. I would like to keep the ring looking more "band-like" vs. engagement ring and will likely end up with a tension or bezel setting of some sort (first I must find the stone, then I will get help with designing the ring). Because of the look I am going for I'd really like the width of the stone to be no more than 5.5mm and the depth to be no more than 3.5mm; which means I am likely looking for a stone in the 1.1-1.3 carat range (I'd like to get as big of a stone as I can with those measurement constraints).

Size: 1.1-1.4 carats (5.5mm width max, 3.5mm depth max)
Color: D-F (ideally E or F)
Clarity: eye-clean (would prefer to be in the VS1-VS2 range to save some money)
L/W ratio: approximately 1.4-1.5 (want an elongated stone so I can get more size without as much width)
Polish/Symmetry: VG or EX
Other: like cut corners but doesn't have to be.
*I've learned from you guys that cut is king and that is my main concern! I know step cuts don't sparkle like rounds or other stones but I'd like it to have as much sparkle and light performance as possible!
Budget: none...would like to spend as little as possible, but on the flip side will spend whatever I need to for the right stone. Looks like I will be somewhere in the 6-11K range?!?!

I've been looking mainly at Enchanted Diamonds because of their large selection and photos, videos, ASETs, and IS images that they have immediately available on their site. I know I can ask for ASET images from other vendors but it seems like it takes several days and with stones this size, i've noticed the good ones get snatched up very quickly. So I thought maybe ED would be the best. I am ready to buy one immediately but I know I shouldn't rush (thanks diamondseeker2006)!!

Anyone willing to take a little time and help me on this journey??? I'd be super grateful!

Limiting depth is only going to make the search more difficult as finding good ECs are like searching for that needle in the haystack unless you have months on your hands. If your requirements are this stringent, I'd contact a vendor like GOG to call in stones for you. With an EC that maxes out at 5.5 mm, I'm not sure you'll be able to see the corners once set (it will look squared). Also check out James Allen to see what is available.

Thanks Chrono, that totally makes sense! I just need this ring to be as low profile as possible, hence the depth requirement. I am willing to go smaller in order to get that depth (definitely still want to be in the 62-66% range as to not compromise the stones cut). There are several on Enchanted Diamonds that meet my criteria I just don't know if they are great stones or not, but I will definitely look more into GOG! Thanks!!

62% to 66% depth does not guarantee cut performance. There are many duds within this range as they are as many well cut ECs in the 65% to 70% depth. Please throw out any number range as hard and fast limits. They help a little but in the grand scheme of things, are useless when shopping for ECs.

I second James Allen. With emerald cuts, not even asets tell the whole story. You really need to see the stone move
(videos).

Re: Help me find a stone? Suggestions? Emerald cut (overwhel

Totally understand what you are saying Chrono! I just don't want a deeper stone so I can get more carat weight. Know it will limit my search even more (in an already tough shape to find)!! I may have to change my mind if I don't find something within a couple months!

Agreed, videos for me are a must! JA has a lower selection right now (without even using some of my measurement constraints), and ED seems to have more options (most of which have videos and other imaging). I know some people haven't loved ED, but I've been impressed with the number of stones listed on their site with video/imaging! I've looked at whiteflash, JA, GOG, and VC too.

Almost forgot Mark T at Brilliantly Engaged! He is another with a good eye for finding well cut ECs.

Awesome!! I'll check him out! Thank you so much!!

Good Old Gold is the best at locating well cut fancy shape stones. They found an outstanding asscher cut (square emerald) for me. They are among the few that will check light return and make a video of the stones for you.

Re: Help me find a stone? Suggestions? Emerald cut (overwhel

I'm posting some JA stones that I think might fall into your specs. You can request up to 3 asets (on local stones...have to ask
JA which are local). Don't request asets until you get more input from other PSers. I'm no emerald expert...just have looked
at a lot of images/videos and know what I like/don't like.

I think this is my favorite...would need to ask JA if it is eye-clean enough for an emerald cut. May be smaller than you want.
It's very mirror-y looking :)) and looks like it's returning light well when moved .
