So I think I''ve decided on the 1.2 carat princess cut from GoG, but I don''t know what setting to get.

I know that I want white gold and I want it to be simple and elegant.

So far my only option is http://www.goodoldgold.com/setting/V-101/ .

Is that good? Only reason I hesitate is because it is $950 and I would suck if my GF didn''t like it.

Wellll....
1.You could try to find out what sort of setting your GF would like, or
2.You can get a cheaper temporary setting for the proposal and pick a setting together later, or
3.You can try to find that setting at another retailer who will let you return/trade it in if she hates it, or
4. You can just wing it; it''s a beautiful setting.

Tons of options!

Tons of options!

1. This idea is out.
2. The only thing GoG has was about $450 and they would have to order it. So this is out.
3. Good idea, but it would be difficult for me to do this within my timeframe.
4. I Might do this.

That's a beautiful and very classic setting.

Have you asked GOG if they have a simple and inexpensive ring in WG to put your stone in until a latter date when you could upgrade?

WF has some inexpensive ones, too. But I guess you are saying "quick" for a reason!

Is you GF very particular about her jewelry? If she is I'd go with a $250 WG. Hitting the setting style right-on is not easy for you poor guys. So many of us gals are picky and have distinct preferences. Good luck.

Has she ever mentioned a friend''s ring that she particularly liked, or pointed out a picture in a magazine? What is the style of her other jewelry (if she wears any)? If you''re just not sure and don''t have time to find out, it''s probably best to go with something simple and classic. Good luck!

propose with just the stone and invite her to work with you on picking out a setting, therefore making it a "joint" effort.

Just so you know, most of the employees of GOG are out on vacation next week. I don''t know if that''s going to slow you down a whole lot, but it may actually give you some time to research a little more. July is definitely the wrong month to buy jewelry, which I just found out, since all the jewelers like taking off. Lucky me, I''m not in too big of a hurry:)

Good luck!

I have the Vatche x prong and love it. I can''t speak for your girlfriend of course, but it''s a lovely designer setting.

This is a great idea, as the diamond will come in a throw-away tension setting that she can actually try on and see how the diamond is going to look. If you really want to go ahead with the ring, the choice you made is a good one. The style is very classic and really shows off the diamond.

Trellis settings are beautiful, but the one thing I don''t like about the Vatche is how thick the band is. I really like the Royal Empress for a princess, on the other hand. IT has a more narrow band that will make the stone pop. I also prefer low settings like this one.

Really? I didn''t know they did that. Thanks for the info, NeverEndingUpgrade.

Just so you know, GOG has alot of settings that are not actually on their site.
Just email Marie with your requirements and she can make suggestions.
Fyi, I had a setting made up with them for ~$270 - so unless they''re not using this providor anymore, you can get >$450.
