I'm looking for an engagement ring in the near future and have done a little searching, but I'm not really sure if what I've found thus far is good or not.
My gf has her eye on a 3 stone ring with a princess center and pears on the side. I can't really afford much (3.5k-4k) so I'm pretty limited. Although she said that size doesnt matter, i think she really wants to break the 1ct barrier (which i realize is impossible if I include a 3 stone setting), thus I've been looking more in the .85ct range (hard to come by since it sits right between two 1/4 carat increments). From my research/understanding, here are the specs I've been looking for
Carats: ~.8-.9
Cut: Very good and above (trying to stay with Table between 65-75% and depth between 60-72)
Color: I and above (I realize princesses show color better, but we saw a couple of I's and I think we can deal with an I color on a princess), although H would be ideal
Clarity: SI1 and above
The material of the ring isn't that important, but I was hoping to find something in white gold so I can save some money since she doesnt seem to have any preference one way or another.
Currently I've picked out a .84 ct w/ very good cut, I color, VS1 clarity, Depth 72.8, Table 64%, thin-med girdle, VG symmetry, Excellent polish for around $2300 on blue nile, with a 3 stone setting in platinum with 2 pear side stones (1/4 tcw) for around $1500 (a bit more than Id like to spend, seeing hte stone is only 2300).. so the total is around 3800.
Anyone out there with suggestions on better stones/rings?
btw. I have some contacts (not very close.. more like friends relative with employee discount/ dad's client) in the diamond industry.. but I wonder if they will be able to come close to BN in price? Ive checked out some of their stock, but haven't really talked price yet (not quite sure how to 'ask for a discount' at this point). Do you think these avenues are worth pursuing? (they are all atleast 1hr away from me and I really can't get out there except for weekends)
