I have been looking for a long time, got several suggestions earlier, but everything I have pursued (that has been mentioned to me here as a possibility) either didn't work out (vendor couldn't get info from the company owning the diamond, it was sold, vendor didn't follow up, and whatnot). Getting tired of searching and getting stymied. I pursued 6 diamonds through B2C, they either had sold or couldn't get info on them. James Allen recommended stones that ended up having poor idealscopes (makes me wonder). I would love to buy a Super Ideal from WF, but not sure I need that extra cut precision and the associated cost. Maybe I am being too picky?

My criteria:

budget approx $15k, max $16k
Cut: ideal, optimum light return.
Clarity: eye clean, Si1 is great, even a clean Si2
color: I, J, K (if it faces up white).
Size: 1.8 or larger (she has a 5.5 finger).

I would go with the super ideal from Whiteflash, Brian Gavin, Good Old Gold or James Allen for all of the reasons above that you mentioned. I went through the same thing thinking that I could find a bigger diamond for the same price. It was so frustrating and I realized that there is only a little extra cost in buying one of their signature diamonds when comparing to a non-branded diamond with comparable ideal proportions.

I just read what Diamondseeker posted and I agree. This is so close to their signature diamonds and has everything you're looking for.

Since you aren't caring about top cut (ACA), I think this ideal cut is a great option because it looks like a near miss for ACA:

I really like I color and would discourage you from K because it will be tinted. It may not be obvious in all lighting, but it will not look as bright as a whiter stone.

Anyone have a pic of a 1.8ct on a 5.5 finger? Worried it will look kinda small. The 1.75 I saw in the store looked a bit on the small side. A friend has a 8.4mm diameter OEC, looked like a nice size; but out of my price range I suppose?

I did look at that diamond from WF, it was of interest. They don't have much though for J in the 1.9-2ct range.

Yeah, 8.4mm is around 2.2+ cts and will be a LOT more than a 1.8.

My finger size is 5.5 and I have a picture of 7.6mm. So you can see that 7.8mm will be even larger.

Hey dumbo, the search for the perfect one can be exhausting can't it? I just got done doing the same thing over the course of a couple months. Your requirements are similar to what mine were but your budget is a little higher. The stone from whiteflash definitely looks like a nice one at a nice size too on a 5.5 finger (same as my gal). I wouldnt call it small at all, but it will be visibly smaller than a well cut 2 carat. Here is one stone that I figured I'd show you as a "size option" in case you were worried about the size on the 1.8. This stone would give you higher clarity than you need (Vs1) and would be middle of your range for color at J. It is over 0.5mm different in size which will be quite a bit bigger visually (almost at 8.4 mm). It doesnt have IS or ASET images though, but the hearts look decent. Price is similar at $15,200. Something for you to consider.

The numbers are good on that stone as well, but you'd have to check on whether the black carbon spots are visible or not. You'd be giving up a little size and definite eye cleanliness for the improvement in color. I personally have seen quite a few I's and J's and have a really hard time seeing much of a difference, but that is me. It all depends on what your preferences are. If ED didn't respond to your email I would try the live chat. I never had many issues getting through to them unless it was at odd hours.
