I've been looking at loose diamonds over on blue nile and have it narrowed down to 3 or 4 possible stones, all of which are ideal cut, H in color, SI1, excellent symmetry, no fluorescence, no cullet, and .70 in size . I can't seem to figure out why there is a price difference amongst the stones.

Also, is it worth it to even consider the signature ideal diamonds?

I entered in the numbers for the table, depth, cullet and pavilion into and HCA calculator to try determining the "brilliance" etc of various diamonds. Each of the diamonds came out as excellent in all of the categories except for spread, which was ranked very good.

Hopefully all of this makes sense to someone and they can help me out. I've been doing research for a while, but it's still difficult to determine what a diamond will look like in person based on raw numbers. This is the link to some of the diamonds on blue nile http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?track=head . If anyone has a better source feel free to post. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Hi, I just got a diamond from blue Nile. I got an emerald cut. I went shopping at a jewelry store and they had 3 stones and I liked the dimensions of one. The stone at the jewelry store had visible inclusions so I looked on blue Nile. The prices were much better so I decided to go for it. I ordered the ring and got it and I kept trying to talk myself into liking it and decided it was too narrow (the stone) for my taste. I found another from them which was a little different, the ratio was different and I got a different setting. I kept worrying about it and thought this is too hard to do online. When the second one came I couldn't believe how beautiful it is. They were great with the first return and I got my money back within 3 days. I just had to pay shipping to them (which was $30) I asked about the price differences I found they were also different between stones I was looking at. They told me it depends on the vendor they get it from on the price they charge. I am very happy with my purchase from them and would highly recommend them. You can call and talk with a diamond consultant, they can answer the price different question better than I did. Also they said they can call the vendor and get info on the stone.
Good luck with your search:)
