I am planing on upgrading the diamond in my ering. I love my setting so I definetly want to keep it. I like the thin band and I think it would look great with a bigger diamond. My new diamond will be round and betweed .75 and one carat I have not decided yet. My current diamond is a round .42 carat. My only worry is that I do not want the stone to look too big for my setting. I talked to a jewler today and he said that I can go with one carat but the larger center stone will have to be set higher. I do not really want it to be any higher than it is.

What do you think? Does the new stone have to be set higher? Will a larger stone look good with my setting? What size should I go with? Do you know what the average charge is to set a new stone.

Here are the links for rings like mine. I hope they open OK ( I could not figure out how to post the pics). I have the round one.

Thanks so much. I love this forum.

Jess, congrats on your upcoming upgrade! The stone will need to be set up higher if it doesn't fit down in the bridge like your current stone does. You probably have very little space between your stone and the metal on the sides, right? So, a larger stone will be wider there, and will need to be raised to accomodate the setting.

Beautiful setting BTW. And, I think the new stone will make it even better.

I don''t know that much about settings but I do know that they can get really tricky if a stone varies even slightly from what the setting was designed to accomodate so it may be very likely that you will have to have it set higher.

The larger stone will probably look FABOO with your setting ... After all, when does a bigger diamond not look good, right ... just a bigger piece of perfection

What size? Go all out!

Go for the carat or if you are cost conscious, go just shy at around .85 or .90 and this way you sort of miss out on the premium charged to have a diamond that is considered a full or "light" carat.

Unfortunately, I have no idea about your last question but I am positive either one of the jewelry afficianados

or experts

on PS will be able to lend a helping hand.

Have fun deciding on your upgrade! Let us know what you decide.
