Hello everyone,

I've lurked on this website for the past few months and through the testimonials from many of you, I've decided to get a Crafted by Infinity diamond set in a Vatche U113 Solitaire (platinum) for my soon-to-be fiance. My budget for the stone is $8,500 but if I could save a few dollars by going down in clarity and color (as long as the stone faces up white and is eye clean) to get in the $7,500 range, that would be my preference.

Working with Wink has been wonderful so far. He answers my emails almost immediately and is always around for a quick call. Wink definitely puts me at ease as a first time diamond buyer. He has recommended the following stone, a 1.00C, I, Si1, AGS 000: http://www.winkjones.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity-new&id=1351. Here is a video Wink himself personally put together for me : http://handshake2.jivesystems.com/videos/xvst21tq85. Wink has confirmed that the stone faces up white and is eye clean. The black spots I am told are picked up by the camera but are not noticeable to the naked eye. My only concern would be that the spots would show up in a picture that my girlfriend takes of the ring for Facebook or whatever.

I am going to have this stone as well as couple of his others sent to a local independent appraiser so I can decide on which one to pick in person. Based on my budget and Wink's inventory: http://www.winkjones.com/index.php?...how_infinity=1&Submit=++++Search++++&limit=50, which stones should I request a viewing of?

Question #2 - Should I go with the standard Vatche ring or the 90/10 platinum/iridium combination or something else? It sounds like there isn't an extra charge either way but I know some recommend different metal combinations for various reasons.

Thanks so much. The knowledge that I have developed as a result of this website has been immensely helpful.

Your ring sounds gorgeous! I would go with which ever stone Wink recommends most! He is a total expert on cut!

I totally agree here. Wink is a great guy and jeweler.

I trust him implicitly, so much so, that I did not send my recently purchased cut to order CBI diamond to an outside appraiser, nor did I request to see it in person. Reviewing the AGSL lab report, looking at the 10x, Hearts, Arrows, Idealscope and ASET images were enough for me to formally "accept" my CBI diamond. Of course the photos and video were a nice touch too.

Congrats on your choice and welcome to the CBI family.

I ordered my Vatche rings in 95% Platinum and 5% Ruthenium because 1 - it has a higher Vickers Hardness and thus more scratch resistance than the 90/10 alloy and 2 - it is the alloy that Tiffany uses for their platinum rings. You may choose otherwise. If you have not already done so, you will enjoy working with Melissa as she is very pleasant and knowledgeable.

If you are concerned about how eye clean it is you need to specify what your standards are.
If for example you need completely eye clean under 10X magnification than I suggest choosing something with higher clarity. But you probably don't need that "mind clean" for a facecbook pic.

Otherwise ask specific questions, like (6 inches from the side in dim lighting) do you see any inclusions. Or in natural outdoor indirect light at what distance can you see the inclusions. (you force the seller to define when it is NOT eye clean which is much more valuable information)

While not specifically inferring anything about this seller or stone, If you ask too general a question like is this "eye clean" without defining your standard more than often you will get the answer that might make the sale not the one you might need to hear.

Well cut rounds can often hide inclusions but I don't a believe "H&A ideal cut" does it significantly better than an average GIA XXX especially when we are talking about inclusions in the middle of the table.
