Help me decide on an H&A

As I previously have posted, I''m in the process of finding the best round cut H&A for around 7500-8000 + the setting. I have a few questions however.....

I''m looking at either a traditional setting or the "X" prong that WF offers...... Does anyone know if one shows the stone better than the other?? I really like the way the X prong looks but to me kinda hides the stone a bit.

I''ve noticed that going from G to H in clarity can get you about .1-.15 carats larger for the same price..... is that worth it?? Is there much of a difference or is it just a status thing??

Maybe I''m being rediculas at this point, but, does it matter much if some stones were graded 3 months ago and some others 2 years ago?? Are the older graded stones still on the market because there is something wrong with them that others in the past has noticed??

I think you meant G to H color, right? Yes, the lower you go in color, the less expensive the stone. Color is just personal preference, but you can get away with a little lower color on an ideal cut stone because they face up whiter.

I wouldn''t worry about the date on the cert. There are a lot of reasons. It doesn''t necessarily mean there is anything wrong with the stone.

I''ll just mention that if there is one you''re really considering, put it on hold before posting here. There are many people lurking and searching for diamonds!

I do think some settings show the stone more than others. It would just depend on which ones you''re talking about. It''s best to know your girlfriend''s preferences.

Are you deciding between the Classic Tiffany-Style Knife Edge and ''X-Prong'' Trellis Solitaire settings that WF offers? I would go with the Classic Tiffany! I love that setting.

G and H are colors. You probably won''t be able to tell the difference between a G and H. An ideal cut will face up whiter too.

When a stone was graded doesn''t matter. If the certificate has a date 2 years ago it doesn''t mean anything bad.

We can help you decide after you post the stones you are considering. I recommend reserving them before you post, as sometimes there are lurkers and they can snatch up your diamond.

This 1 seems to have something directly in the center if you view it under 40X mag...... will this be at all noticable?? Most of what I read alway s has me lean toward SI1''s due to the price! However, everytime I look at them under magnification or any of the other pics the inclusion(s) become very apparent! Is this normal?? Also, how notcable will this inclusion be under the standard 10x? Unless I hear some really positive things about the SI1''s I really think the smaller stone at VS2 is a better way to go even though I lose about .15 carat wt. Can you guys take a look at the 3 that were suggested and tell me which you guys would pick?? I''m leaning towards the 1.12 C but can be easily swayd based the ever present advise..... Thanks again in advance!!!!!
 
I''m not really seeing anything at 40x. A VS2 should be quite clean. Call WF with your concerns and they will be very candid with you about any of their stones. They were with me and I called them repeatedly with my questions. I ended up with a beautiful ACA

You need to call WF and ask them. I''ve seen perfectly clear stones at 40x that weren''t eyeclean in the end, and vice versa. And yes, it''s normal that inclusions can be very apparent at 40x. Just think how you''d look all blown up.

The difference between SI and VS or VVS is in the magnification. Most SI1's in that size range won't have noticeably visible inclusions (maybe by straining and holding it in a certain light . . . and that's maybe).

I look for SI stones personally. I'd only get VS if I couldn't find a good candidate in the SI range. To me, having the stone be cleaner under intense magnification isn't worth it . . . nobody is going to whip out a magnifying glass to view your diamond. I'm all about paying the least amount of money to get a stone that looks just as good. So if the vendor says it's ok, I'd go for it. If not, then maybe look for an H VS2.
 
Definitely call and ask. I think it''s a gorgeous stone, and bet that it''s eye clean. But they are the experts. Good luck and let us know what they say.
 
That diamond is roughly 7 mm across. I estimate the inclusion is (conservatively) 1/40 of the diameter of the diamond. That means the real life size of this inclusion is about 0.175mm. So grab a ruler and look at a 1mm mark. Now divide that 1 mm mark into 5.7 equal parts. I don''t know about you but I can''t even come close to seeing it. Now add on top of that bright light flashing in your eye while you are doing this and you get the idea. My personal opinion people make too much of clarity. No one will ever notice this. It is a beautiful looking stone.
 
If I find a stone on BN that is a bit cheaper than WF, I do my own HCA on the BN stone (since they don''t provide 1) and get the same 1.1 is there any reason why I should''nt go with them??? BTW they are both graded by AGS.
 
You won't get the same information from BN, eg., IS, ASET and you also won't have the option to upgrade your diamond in the future. In addition, I believe that BN drop ships their diamonds, with the exception of their Signature Collection. WF has all their diamonds called in for inspection, if they are not already in house. All ACA's and ES are in house selections. Someone at WF can look at them for you and offer a professional opinion. I think this is a big difference in the level of service in making such an important purchase. It's your choice of what will work best for you, of course

After reading your posts, I think the answer is an easy one: Buy the ACA from WhiteFlash.

Rationale:

You are "money conscious" and I am too. WhiteFlash offers LIFETIME DIAMOND UPGRADE, BN and does not. WhiteFlash wants you to become part of their diamond family for life. What if your future wife wants a larger stone? With the upgrade policy you pay only a fraction of what it would cost to buy a larger stone, with BN you have to buy a totally different diamond and pay full price.
