This is literally my first post :)

I just decided to propose to my girlfriend next month, it's a rush decision but I think it's time. And after learning the 4C, wasted some time in local venders, I came across this diamond:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.10-carat-f-color-si2-clarity-sku-213763

My budget is around $8000, looking for a 1 Carat, Ideal cut, Color F diamond, I guess the only factor I am willing to give up is the clarity... (maybe the color...). So my question is, I see some marks on the surface of the diamond, would it be noticeable by naked eye? Do you guys think this is a good one? By the way, the price of this one is around $7200..

Thanks for all the answers~!

Twinning wisp is usually white and difficult to see even with magnification but there appears to be a dark mark on the table with could be visible to the naked eye. Strange that the mark is not indicated on the GIA plot at all. You may want to email JA to ask them to check for you physically... but I wouldn't take the risk... esp for an SI2.

There are eye clean SI2s of course... but this does not appear to be one.

If you want to meet your budget, perhaps go down on color to G and find an SI1 that is eye clean?

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply MaximusCruiser and Sakari_8! My friend suggested to me that color F should be the minimum to get, I've never seen color G and H in real life so I am really not sure how noticable it is... But let me talk to the people from James Allen see if that one has noticable marks.... thanks!

Most people do not see color in diamonds until it approaches J. For those who wish to maximize other criteria such as carat weight and cut, I usually recommend J color, SI-1 clarity. An SI-2 can be very beautiful and an excellent bargain, but it depends on how you feel about visible inclusions. Most people I know do not consider Marilyn Monroe less beautiful because of her prominent beauty mark. You have to consider the whole appearance and not fixate on a plot. Vendors with zoom photography can give you a sense of the size and location of the clarity characteristics that warrant the SI-1 or SI-2 grade. Personally, I have no problem with "nature's fingerprints." They can make a stone, unique, give it personality, and make it easy to identify.
