I have a question. In my new search for an emerald cut, I may be looking at slightly higher tables/depth percentages. What does a larger table percentage (65-68%) do to an emerald cut, and what does a larger depth percentage (65-68%) do to an emerald cut. If one of these numbers is going to be higher while the other is lower, which one should it be? Thanks.

(To Chrono...I'm not necessarily in a hurry. I don't want to give up on WF yet)

I'd prefer a bit of depth over a large table.

Larger table - Heightens the risk for a glassy EC look. It tends to take away from the fire aspect as this MAY mean that the crown height could be less. It MAY also affect the look of the steps from the top down (less concentric square look). The larger the table, the smaller the side steps are, so the fire from the side steps will be lessened. Might be all right if the crown height is very high, say 12% and upwards. Still, I don't like stones with large tables.

Larger depth - the stone will measure smaller from corner to corner. I will forgive this a little (up to 68%) because with a high crown height of 12% and upwards, this adds to the overall diamond depth. But only if it has a nice pillow top crown height.

Hi again. I really really don''t understand how I''m supposed to find a good diamond by looking at a picture. Here are the stats for a certain emerald cut:

Cut: Emerald Cut
Clarity: VS1
Carats: 1.22 (0.24 grams)
Color: I
MM Size: 7.01 x 4.93 x 3.69
Fluorescence: NONE
Girdle: Slightly Thick - Thick
Depth: 74.80%
Culet: None
Polish: Very Good
AGTA Code: N
Ideal Cut: No
Table: 62.00%
Symmetry: Very Good
Make: Good
Report: GIA (View Report as PDF)
Russian Cut: No
Notes:
Feathers on pavilion

The depth is 74.8....but I think the picture looks very pretty. Is it a trick? Will the diamond look like crap?

The diamond looks nice; I like the step pattern but I will not pay $$$ for a 1.2 ct EC to look like a 1 ct EC.
What is the crown height?
Any Idealscope picture?

that diamond pic looks almost toooo perfect

Chrono is right. It is too deep. I did a search on USA Certed (which has received favorable reviews from several PSers) and found a couple of stones. I don''t know what your budget is or how large you are willing to go. Based on your last selection, I found these two.
Maybe you could call USA Certed and find out more info.

I''m not saying I would buy it (buy I sure would be considering it if it was an H and not an I), but is it really not worth the price of $4500? Even if the depth is too much?

come on guys...no one can tell me if that is a good price?

Looking around at the PS virtual database, it looks like a fair price (although I still would NOT buy it).
