Hi all!

I'm a long time stalker of the pricescope forums and have been using as a great resource in what I should look for in a diamond. Like alot of ladies I want the biggest and best looking stone my budget will permit. I am still learning a lot about cut but I think a couple of these diamonds from USA certed could be right up my alley. I love cushion cut diamonds and am wanting a halo setting or possibly just a solitaire with a pave diamond band.

My boyfriend is going to New York In a few weeks and said if I find something he can view it there but is also open to purchasing online. Our budget is between $10,000 and $12,000. As I said before, size matters to me but not enough for me to buy a bad stone.

I know I would really need to see photos to ensure it was the stone I wanted 100% but going on these specs am I heading in the right direction?

I know it's alot but even if someone could suggest what my priorities should be (after size) that would help.

Thanks (in advance) for your assistance!

Kate :)

I am really sorry but you really can't even begin to look at cushions without pictures. You can't tell enough from paper to have any idea whether the stones are beautiful or ugly. I do not think SI2 is realistic in a 2 or 3 carat stone, either, because the probably aren't going to be eyeclean from the top and sides. You simply aren''t going to get a well cut cushion at 2-3 cts for $10-12k. I saw that one stone was graded by EGL Israel, and that is extremely unreliable. You need to stick with GIA grading only (a few may be graded by AGS, which is also good).

Good Old Gold and Engagement Rings Direct, both in NY (Long Island and Manhattan) both specialize in well cut cushions. In addition, Perry Chen who works with Leon Mege (Art of Platinum) can also source antuque style cushions. If I were looking for a cushion, those would be the three places I would look, and if you don't see anything in stock, any of them can source others. But choose one to work with rather than having all three search for the same thing!

It's not that the diamonds are not "good".
It's is that you cannot belive their grading reports, so it is impossible to arrive at a fair price.

Please only consider diamond graded by GIA or AGS.
Other labs lie about color and clarity, reportedly as much as 5 grades.

That's why the seeeeem like such a great deal compared to GIA/AGS diamonds.

GIA and AGS-graded diamonds are not more expensive.
Their grading reports are just . . . true.

Do you know what kind of cushion you are looking for? They come in a variety of different looks. That's another reason you need pictures. Honestly off the top of my head I think you need to be looking more in the 1.5 carat range.

Thanks for the great advice everyone!

Diamondseeker2006 I'm not really after a 3 carat (that one just happened to be in the list and on paper looked good) But I did want around a 2 carat. The info about GIA grading is really valuable (thanks to you aswell Kenny), I had never really considered EGL wasn't that great due to the sheer fact i see it all the time (note to self common doesn't equal reliable!). So GIA it is, I guess especially if you are wanting to purchase online it is good to have that solid backing from GIA that what I see is what I get.

tyty333 & diamondseeker2006 I'm not really fussed on the style of cushion, Not a HUGE fan of August but I would say in the right setting and the right cut I wouldn't say no.

I watched a few good old gold videos which were helpful so I might look a bit more into engagement rings direct and GOG to see what I can find. I don't NEED a 2 carat ring (I'm just being greedy I'd say... )

On a sidenote, have any of you used King of Jewelery (or heard any good or bad reviews)?

That modern X factor stone and the briella stone are gorgeous!

back to the drawing board!
