Two of the diamonds feature F color, VS1 clarity and Excellent cut.

One is 1.50 ct ($17,500) and the other is 1.53 ct ($17,850).

The other two diamonds feature G color and VS2 clarity but are a bit larger.

One is 1.60 ct and is a Triple-Ex diamond (Excellent cut, polish, and symmetry) that is currently selling for $17,200. The other is a 1.70 ct diamond with a grade of Very Good for cut, polish, and symmetry; currently selling for $18,100.

Thanks

Tyler

Re: Help me decide diamond choice for engagement ring. 4 Cho

I know these things are more personal preference than anything. But I am buying the diamond online site unseen from a designer. I was looking between 1.25-2.00. These are the suggestions they came back for the setting with a budget of around 20,000. Should i go larger? These suggestions from the jeweler seem right in line with I'd be looking for in the ring. What do you guys and girls think? Should I be looking for something else?

Can you post links to the diamonds? Are the certified? if so can you post those or the links to them? You didn't provide quite enough info for us to help you out. If they are GIA diamonds I will say there is huge variation within the excellent and very good cut categories, not all EX are great diamonds and some VG are real sparklers.

The 1.7ct G VS2 VG scores a .8 on the HCA (great score) The next step for this stone would be pictures, aset and ideal scope images if available. This one has the potential to be a really nice stone.

The 1.6 G VS2 XXX scores a 5.4 on the HCA (really low) so based on that I would forget about this one. The HCA shouldn't be used to pick a good stone but rather to weed out the bad ones.

The 1.53 F VS1 XXX scores a 3.3 so I would forget about this one too

The 1.5 F VS1 XXVG scores a .9 so I would ask about pictures and ideal scope images on this stone as well because it has potential as well

That is a good point I hadn't used HCA to decide on a stone. In fact I've never heard of it. this is my first ring and this site is a wealth of knowledge and experience. I hadn't received photos of the stones yet.

Any other pointers? Am i headed in the right direction?
