Size is one important consideration but I am more interested in a diamond that will look great to the naked eye with a high quality cut.

They both look promising. The second one being an SI2, would need the eyes of the vendor to tell you if it''s eye clean. Why not call DCD and ask them for their opinion. They can be a great value as long as they''re eye clean. Not all SI2''s are alike, some very good some not so good. The GOG stone looks awesome, but is a lot more money. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

out of the two i like the cut on the second one better, the angles are better than the first one. if it's an eye-clean SI2 then it seems like a GREAT deal..I would check into the inclusions on that 2nd stone and go from there! i had an H SI1 and loved it! it's definitely my color sweet spot even though now I have a J that i really love as well. i'm not color sensitive so they almost always look the same to me regarless of D or J, especially when set!

Avalpert,

Though those two are tough to cipher between, per the search by cut chart, the GOG one is better than you report, showing an HCA of 1.4 but more, also xxx vg; not sure why the discrepancy from your math, nor which is right, but you may want to look into that further, as it does make the GOG more encouraging.

I really like the numbers and the size of stone n.2.. but you have to make sure the SI2 is at least fairly eye-clean... If I had to make a choice based only on the paper, I''d probably pick the 1.31 just for my peace of mind (it''s a VS 2), but the 1.57ct is surely worth of consideration.. I''d just give DCD a call, and have them eye-ball the stone.

The discrepency in the HCA seems to be because I used the numbers from the AGS report which have state a pavilion angle of 40.9 whereas the cut adviser (and sarin report) have 40.8. I find it amazing that such a small change could have such a large affect. Anyway, is there any way of determining which report is more accurate? If the HCA is 1.4 instead of 1.7 would that change anyones opinion between the two?

Picking diamonds is tough work.

Usually I''m a size girl. But, the specs on #1 (g/vs2) are a great combination in this size. I''d ask DCD to pull the H/Si2 and ask how eye clean it is. While 1.57 is bigger, you are paying a tad premium for the 1.5 mark.

As long as the vendor says it''s eyeclean, I''d pick the H, SI2.

Me three...

I like the size and the price better IF it is eye clean.

I am arranging a chance to see the 2nd diamond, the vendor said it was eye clean and here is a photo

WOW - looks plenty clean even at that HUGE mag, so I think you''ve found a winner!

Let us know what you think when you''ve seen it!

A follow up question: My wife seems to like the antique ring styles and I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions (in yellow gold) that will look good with either of the diamonds (though I am leaning towards #2 if after I see it looks eye clean to me).

1) Definitely #2. Cheaper, looks great, what''s not to love?

2) As to styles: you have a classic RB, which pretty much means anything will look good. There are *a ton* of antiquey yellow gold styles. Will this be a right hand ring? She won''t be wearing this with a wedding band, will she?

Here''s a plug for the manufacturer of my wedding set. Die-struck with antique presses and hand-engraved. The workmanship has an old-world attention to detail you don''t get with most antique-style rings.

#2 looks like a winner to me, congrats!!!!!

I have some more photos and since I am no expert on interpretingthese I wanted to make sure I wasn''t missing anything. The firescope image looks great to me but I think I can see inclusions in the hearts and something seems off abotu the arrows. Am I reading these right?
