So it''s down to the wire and I have to decide between these 2 settings that I absolutely love! I would be VERY happy with both (I wish I could get both, a girl can have dreams right?....sigh!) but would appreciate any input from all you experienced PSers with such a amazing eye for design and style! The stone is an antique cushion 2.2ct (K/L color)

The two settings that I''m thinking about are:

1. Leon Mege- love those delicate double claws!

2.James Meyer 1345- love the milgrain bezel and the modern look to it. A little worried though that the bezel will reduce the size and kill the brilliance of stone, but I''ve heard that this setting doesn''t do either, and JM being the expert designer that he doesn''t compromise the integrity of stone.I couldn''t find the link to it on his website so used Beach''s beautiful pictures of her JM ring- I hope you don''t mind!

So my question is which setting would you prefer and why? Thanks in advance for any input!

Both are so totally different! I really think you need to have one of each! I absolutely LOVE my James Meyer three stone, and am planning on working with him again on another project. But if this is for your engagement ring I'd probably go for the classic Leon solitaire. It will transition wonderfully through the years as a focal point, and will accept accessorizing (different bands as styles change) much more readily than the JM would.

I just looked back and saw the size of your stone. Whoa!! I'd definitely go with the Leon solitaire. IMO, James pieces are very delicate and a stone of your size would overwhelm the smaller scale of the accents.

Thanks Upgradable! Your points are well taken- I agree about the size of the stone potentially overwhelming the delicateness of the JM setting.

Another vote for the leon.

And yet another vote for the Leon!

Have you tried on a bezel style ring? I loved them in photos and then tried one on and didn''t like it on my finger at all!

I''m not a fan of bezel settings, i think they shrink the stone somehow. So def the LM for me, it''s so much nicer! But that''s just personal preference obviously.... Good luck!!

They''re both gorgeous, but they''re so different!

the JA but I''d probably go for the Leon for an Ering - it''s such a classic design

Tough choice!

Wow! Leon seems very popular!
Mani5ha and dreamer daschie- You both make great points! I''ve never tried on a bezel and yes it does look lovely in pics but I''m not sure whether I''d feel differently if it were on my finger! Also I''m worried about the bezel reducing the size or at least it looking that way.

I also agree the LM is a classic setting- especially for an e-ring which it is!

another vote for leon here, I think it will really let your stone shine.

I vote for the Leon too. You just don''t get more classic and timeless than that.

So it seems like Leon all the way! He sure has many fans!

I think that with your stone the JM setting would be lovely. It will also protect the stone slightly better. And over the years it's patina will make it even more charming. Plus, this style suits the stone best, especially this color stone. And, I like bezels:-)
I also like the LM setting, but you can also pair up a variety of bands with the JM setting, and I think the way the bezel is highly mounted there would be no problem with a loss of brilliance.

edited to add another comment: if I had to choose, however, I would choose the LM setting simply because I don't like settings that are high off the finger. If you have never worn a ring with a setting this high, I strongly recommend you try it first; for me it's annoying...so that is one thing to think about.

Just fyi, from a JM 1345 bezel owner with quite a deep stone - they just don''t sit that high as pictures represent.
It is simply a non-issue, and I love my rings *super low set* all the time.

I just didn''t want that to be a deciding factor.

I do agree they are such completely different settings, so it''s kinda hard to vote.

From your own post, you listed more things about the JM that you like.
The Leon is classic, the JM is unique.

Although it is a different style, I went to Tiffany''s and tried on one of their Bezet settings. It gave me an idea of how a bezel looks, so I recommend going there if there is a Tiffs near you. At least it will give you some real life visuals.

Muffin top and dreamer dachsie-I think I''ll take your advice and try a bezel ring first to see whether I like it on my finger. The pictures of the JM setting just look so amazing but you''re right, I may feel differently wearing it. Luckily there is a Tiffanys close to where I live (in NY)so I''ll be making a trip this weekend to try on a bezel ring.
Arjunajane- I love your JM 1345 garnet-such a gorgeous ring! Thanks for reassuring me about the height of the setting since that was a concern- I love low settings and it looks like the JM 1345 can be set low. What about an earlier concern that was voiced by a fellow PSer about the size of my stone overwhelming the delicateness of the bezel settings/accents?

I also agree with the classic versus unique distinction- oh to be able to have both!! :)

I prefer the Leon personally.

I love the Leon! I''m not as much of a fan of bezel settings.

Two more for the Leon- thanks Laila16 and vespergirl! :)

I''m in the minority it seems. The Leon is nice, but I think I saw a "donut" at the bottom and those drive me nuts. That said I really think the JM would be absolutely stunning with a vintage stone.

Both are pretty though and I do like the double claw of the Leon.

Such different looks, impossible to decide. I''d probably do a Leon for an e-ring and the JM for a right hand ring.
