I''m looking at earrings of .7 carats each (total 1.4)

How important is color and fluorescence in diamond earrings?

If I am in the VS1 range for clarity, how should I think about D vs. E vs. F for color?

How important is it that fluorescence be "none"?

How close should each stone be in table and depth?

is there an ideal table range?

Thanks!

It depends on how picky you are. 'There is always a nose between the ears'

so a perfect match is not necessary, but some people like it that way.

For those who want a good match:

Color: Same color, same lab, same cut quality. If you're less picky a color grade apart is not a big deal.
Clarity: Simple...Both eye-clean or both not eye-clean. Less picky could mean one of each.
Cut: Match the diamonds closely in mm spread, depth, girdle & table size as priorities. Crown and pavilion angles near each other are good. Less picky, get mm numbers and table size close.

I am an Ideal diamond fan, so I like tables near 55-57% even for earrings, but some people like shallow diamonds and/or large tables for earrings and pendants. I would not choose deep for earrings.

i would agree with sir john''s summary above and add that the choice for a certain color/clarity range resides with your own personal preference (and your wallet!) personally, i don''t feel a need to pay for the high/color clarity that i can''t see. earrings and pendants are a great place to make some sacrifices (on anything but cut) because they are not viewed up close with the same scrutiny that rings are. make sure you get a well cut stone(s) though. you CAN see sparkle from across the room!
