My rheumatologist will have a fit, he doesn''t like it when I get tattoos, but I want a new tat IN THE WORST WAY! Please help me decide what to get next. Criteria: it has to have a heart in it someplace and it will need to be on the smaller side. It is going on my upper back or on my upper breast.

I''m thinking spider and web, butterfly, cross, stargazer lily, moon and stars, angel. My brain is fried. Suggestions?

Lori

What do you want the tattoo to represent?

Woo hoo Lori! How smallish are you thinking? What are your other tattoos? (maybe if you already have, say, a cross, you''d like to incorporate something else into this one)

And ohhh boy I feel ya in wanting another one so bad! It''s been almost 4 years since my last ones, and I''m itching to get some work done on my back!

I''ll look around and see what I find for ideas for you.

When you said something about a spider and web and it automatically thought about about the pricescope web.

I am thinking about getting something with my husband. Like the eternity symbol with his initial or something. I know how you feel. I is so hard to figure out what to get.

What about a heart (not just a plain red heart, a more swirly type) with delicate butterfly wings? Or..maybe the butterfly could be somewhat in the shape of a heart..the wings and such, kinda abstract.

Are you thinking color or b/w?

eta: duh, not black and white, I meant black and grey

I''ve designed tattoos for people in the past, if you have an idea of symbols you want to work in, I''d be happy to sketch up some things for you! :)

What kind of style do you like? Tribal? Modern? Art Noveau?

First, I would avoid the breast area. When I get my ink, I always think about how it will look in the future. And, the old ladies with tattoos on their breasts, they just look terrible. I love upper back placement.

Second, I have a heart on fire in an undisclosed location. The heart is kind of bubbled with the little white crescents to show depth. The flames go out of the sides and around the top. They''re not outlined in black, they''re just free-handed with red, orange and yellow. I wasn''t sure how the flames would last since they''re not really blocked, but they haven''t done anything weird (except during pregnancy).

If you have a tattoo artist in mind, you can give him/her your ideas and see what they come up with. I''ve been happiest with my work that was designed by the tattooist.

Upper back! Tats with bony stuff under them are much better lasting than squishy tissue (thighs butt boobs etc).

As I'm a huge fan of Art Nouveau stuff, I tend to get inspired to want to ink myself more by looking through books of Art Nouveau jewelry. Rene Lalique glass books also. If some particular style of design inspires you, look for a book on it- like Celtic designs etc., perhaps.

Browse some portfolios? (If you don't have an artist in mind already you'll probably be doing a lot of that anyway!) http://www.apocalypsetattoo.com , particularly Benjamin Moss's tattoos, are great and totally fun to look at. (And hey, I'm in there, at least my back is

Hi Lori,

Please be careful who you go to for the tattoo. I used to work for a rheumatologist on genetic studies of SLE, so I understand his/her concern about how local inflammatory response associated with tattoo may trigger a systemic inflammatory response (a full flare)for you. If you insist on getting it please be careful who you go to, and monitor your disease activity very carefully post procedure.

Take care!

this one is really spooky but what about a black widows web and instead of a hourglass its a heart shape...or a heart shaped web!!

I think the halloween spirit has it me

I use an Old School Shop that''s been in business since 1975. Travis is the only artist I let touch me. It will be a while longer before I''m able to go.....dang SLE is flaring and we''re trying to get my chemo infusions started up again.

Big hugs,
Lori

Thank you for your suggestions!!!! I''ll be back for a follow up just as soon as I''m able to go for my tat....I love fellow tattoo lovers!
