Looking for 1.5K diamond studd earrings. Narrowed down the the below - I’m a rookie so would appreciate any advice or thoughts.

1) Blue Nile $4250
2) James Allen $4410
Also just spent a bunch of time in the diamond district in NYC yesterday and had a variety of experiences. One jeweler claimed he could beat any price I find online. Any thoughts on the two choices above or trying to challenge the local guy?

Thanks!

You need to ask that jeweller if he can beat any online price for a specific, GIA- or AGS-graded stone you choose from globally-available virtual inventory, or if he is just saying he can beat an online price for a given set of specs (e.g. H SI2).

If the former, you might have a potential option.

If the latter, I doubt he will be providing the same quality and cut that we can find online for you.

Is your budget c.$4.5k?

What are your preferred / required specs in terms of colour/clarity/carat size?

That’s basically the specs I’d like - approx 1.5 carat, ideal cut, G or H color, SI2 clarity. Or maybe slightly worse on the color and clarity it it makes a big difference in price.

I will ask the jeweler.

Using the search bar at the top and filtering using PS-recommended parameters, there are 130+ diamonds hitting AGS000 to choose from:
https://www.pricescope.com/diamonds...=1&pageview=96&adv=true&days=100&cert_number=

And there are a few more if you swap to GIA XXX that are In-house with the PS-recommended vendors:

I've filtered to SI1 only, because finding an eye-clean SI2 can be like finding a unicorn riding over a rainbow with a bag full of rocking horse poo and hen's teeth on its back... :D lol

I'm not sure Brian Gavin Diamonds is listed there - do check them out, including their Advance selection (which is coming in soon but isn't in stock yet).

Personally I’d go with these two:

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3892613.htm

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3400947.htm

They total around 1.35ct but their premium ACA cut will make them look larger, and will certainly out perform any 1.5 total with a standard (even GIA XXX) cut. You’ll lose about 1/3 of a mm diameter for not hitting 1.5ct, but the trade-off in appearance is very worth it in my opinion!

Also, if you choose a bezel setting that will make up for the loss in diamond size.

Hi,

Not everyone needs super ideal diamonds. I think she should look under expert select from white flash. Ideal cut stones, not super ideal.

If you want to work with someone in the diamond district, I'd suggest working with Yekutiel or Shulamit at ID Jewelry. They have always beat the prices of virtual stones from JA and BN.

I had also checked under expert and premium cuts and they only had one pair close to their criteria

He said the diamonds would be GIA certified and match the parameters I gave him. Is that something that I should be skeptical of?

Yes, unless he means table/depth/crown/pavilion percentages. Most likely he only meant cut/symmetry/polish and color/clarity.

How do these look? $3834 for 1.51ct ./ Excellent / H / SI2.
Table 59/58 and Depth 61.4/61.6. I was unable to download the full report but am asking for them.

Was surprised to see the pricing given the other parameters all match what’s I’m looking for and the pricing looks lower than what I’ve been seeing otherwise.

Bump for my question on the new pair I found. Just baffled at price difference...

We'll need to find out the grading report information so we can run them through the HCA!

Can you email them for a copy? I can't download them either, but it might just be Windoze Explorer being rubbish... lol
