good afternoon!

I’m new here but a long time reader.

I would love to hear everyone’s opinion on what I should do.

I am looking to have a pair of diamond earrings made.

Background info:
- I plan to wear from day (casual but put together) to night (dressy casual).
- will be made in platinum, locking back
- considering either a 4 prong tapered basket or martini, or smooth bezels
- considering either 2ctw or 1.5 ctw (and possibly 1.25 ctw

I need opinions on:
1. Which ctw looks better on me
2. Which style to choose - 4 prong or smooth bezel.
3. If smooth bezel is chosen, which stone size should I select - what would look best on me?

I took some modeling pics using diamond carat equivalent cz’s to show the size.

-Three pictures wearing white glasses = 2ctw
-Two pictures (wearing orange) = 1.5 ctw
-And just some style options for the earrings.

Sorry in advance for the messy hair do :)

Thanks for your help!!!0D619375-F2EF-4BE4-8DBD-FC063E47F9CD.jpeg75817525-8430-4ACF-A389-47F79F3F6924.jpegDDA44B31-608F-4354-B613-9C63436076F6.jpegF91B87FF-F028-41BA-97B3-151D402BC922.jpeg68E38AE3-5E8D-4686-869F-5F54042D14E4.jpegEAE6D3BE-617E-4EDB-802A-FFDA3EED2BAE.jpeg4D13B2C6-88A4-4540-80BB-4FC23E6BACAE.jpeg

These pictures below are 1.25 ctw

I can't believe I am saying this because I always say go bigger, but I really like the 1.5 ctw size on you. You have small earlobes and the 2 ctw are a bit large imo.

I think the 1.5 ctw look great and are a nice compromise since you say you'll want to both dress these up and dress 'em down for daily wear. I think the 2ctw for your ears are a little much for daily wear, but the 1.5ctw you can pass them off as dailies but also dress them up for evening things.

Just my 2c -- Like Ceg it's strange I'd go for the smaller options, but my mother is one who also has quite small earlobes, so her 1 ctw actually fool people for being 1.5-2ctw all the time.

Thank you so much for the reply...so helpful :) ! Should I do a bezel or just stick to the four prong do you think?

Like @ceg I cannot believe I'm saying go smaller, but yes! The 1.5ctw looks absolutely perfect on your ears. I wear my 2ctw at least 6 days a week lol, but I am not delicate like you. And I LOVE wearing them....Enjoy!

The 2 ctw look great! Of course, they all do! Go as big as your budget allows. I did several little upgrades to get to my current pair, and it really was silly because I was wasting money resetting them every time. I have a pair of 1.30 ctw for my daughter. That size will be larger than average for her age where she lives and I doubt she'd ever upgrade. So really, only you know what your world is like and how large you feel comfortable in. Just know that all of them look fine!

As to settings, I love the classic 4 prong and think they tend to sit flatter on the ear than martini's. I'd consider bezels for smaller stones, though.

Another vote for the 1.5ctw. That size looks just about perfect on your earlobes! I would stick with the prong. The bezels will add more size, which may look too big on your ears. For your "one and only" pair of studs, best to go with the biggest size diamond your ears can pull off (if you can afford it ;)2) and stick with an unobtrusive prong setting. Bezels are great for small casual studs (a lot of people love their baby bezels as an everyday casual earring).

Have you thought about a 6-prong setting? I personally like the look of 6-prong studs more, as IMO they make the diamonds look more round. Plus they're more secure.

Thank you for all the wonderful advice and really kind comments thus far, ladies <3 !!!

I like the smaller ones on you, too. Have you considered a half bezel setting? I really like mine...

Both look lovely! The 1.5ctw suit your ear lobe size nicely.... but 2ctw to factor in DSS... :lol-2::lol-2:

Re: setting, it’s very much so a personal preference. I would rather prong setting than bezel (just my preference) as I always feel that bezel ‘diminishes’ the sparkle just a little (this could just be me!!) and I LIKE the look of 6 prong settings.

I recently got mine custom set into floral outline settings with a la pousette backing (similar size range- I went for 1.6ctw) which I adore. Mine are for every day wear and for formal occasions too. Absolutely adore them- I wear no other earrings now!!

Adding a quick pic just so you can think about setting styles ‘outside the box’ :)

I think the 1.5s are simply perfect and probably more comfortable, but the 2s are niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. I have 1.3ctw diamonds and wish they were just a TINY bit bigger...

Bigger is better. Sorry... :P2

and as for settings, I love delicate claw 6-8 prong settings. I find that bezels kind of just swallow up the diamond on the ears personally. these are mine

These are great. What is the total carat weight of these? I’m considering 6 or 8 prong - my 3 prong martini setting irritates my ears unfortunately.

Here is another alternative to the standard stud settings - you can get a bit of a smaller diamond tcw but still have nice presence on your ears since the setting provides a few more mm of coverage. The diamonds here are 1.7 tcw.

Just FYI - this thread is about four years old. Not sure you will get a response from the poster you responded to - she might not be here to see it.
