Okay, I am back to an aqua quest! I found this one on ebay. I love the green color with gray undertones (listen to me use the lingo!). But here are my questions:
1) If you were to divide this stone in 1/3 horizontally, the top 1/3 looks like it has a ding in it ( look at me not use the lingo!). Does it?
2) The stone is rated S1 for clarity. Is it possible to get the color in a better quality?
3)Do people hold one of the "c" as more important then the others? Is it possible to love an imperfect stone with beautiful color?
4) This stone is 5.3 carats....is that huge for an aqua?

Thanks!!!

That is not an SI stone since SI means slightly included, and I hate to be blunt, but that looks like road gravel. Aquas can be found clean or SI in relatively large sizes. It's not uncommon to see a five carat aqua. Unheated aquas tend to be more green as well. I wouldn't touch that stone with a ten foot pole. Sorry.

It''s way too included for an aqua in my opinion.

Thanks. The green is lovely, but I was not in love with the stone....I put my 10 foot pole away!!

I will continue searching.

Does it have to be an aqua?
Here's a natural blue topaz (probably too big though at 12mm):

Here''s a 3.8ct aqua, 225$

1. It looks like a very nasty dark inclusion or cavity.
2. Yes, MUCH better clarity and quality.
3. Yes, colour comes first but the rest has to be balanced as well. It''s all right to love a non eye clean stone with beautiful colour but the key word is that the inclusion must not be distracting. This one is painful on the eyes.
4. No, aquas can easily go up to 20 ct and more.

Not only does it look like fish tank gravel, the photo''s been re-touched, so I wonder how truly bad it is. Sorry Bookworm, I don''t want to rain on your parade, but that is one nasty aquamarine. To make up for my comments I''ll see if I can find you a nice one if you like. What kind of budget do you have in mind?

Some nice aquas here

You might also like green beryls, which can come in a very similar color. Maybe not as huge or expensive as THIS, but you get the picture

AJS also has a selection of vanadium chrysoberyls, and let''s not forget minty garnets, bluish green tourmalines and blue topazes.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to look for better aquas. Should I remove the ebay one from my thread? I feel like I am making the forum ill!!!

Mr. Ma Re ( why do I always misspell your name?) et al - here is the issue. Yes I love the color of the green beryl b. However, both of my children were born in March and so for sentimental reasons I would like to find an aqua. But, I may need to re-evaluate.

My dream budget for the stone and ring would be around $500...but I could use that budget for just the stone and then save up for a setting.

Thanks again.

Bear in mind that "birthstones" are a marketing invention dating back to the early 1900s, there is no significance to them other than marketing, they have changed several times and been added to as new stones became available and lastly green beryl and aqua are two species of the same mineral - beryllium aluminium silicate - with different impurities colouring it differently. (Just in case you need an excuse to buy yourself some emerald, heliodore, goshenite, [bixbite] or morganite, they are the same too).

Thanks, I will look at this as informative enabling!!!!! ;)

I feel like green beryl is harder to find than aqua :/

Vanadium green beryl is very pretty and it does seem to be more difficult to find than aqua.
