Right now I am considering the above stone...

I have learned to use the HCA, and have been trying my best to evaluate diamonds from the various reputable vendors, however when I look at the report and the visual of the flaws within the diamond I really have no idea how to determine what may or may not be an item of concern.

Can anyone give me a quick advice on how to know what to look for? What is a deal breaker? What is not important? I just don't know what I'm doing when looking at these from GIA or AGS.

Thanks!

Looks good to me.

You are off to a good start looking at an AGS Ideal cut! But the next thing you need is a magnified image of the diamond to see the inclusions. I would not buy a stone without seeing pictures, especially SI clarity. Please post it if you have it.

Thanks for the reply, I am now looking at these two stones; please let me know your thoughts on the zoomed in pictures of the inclusions (top down). I am not sure how to evaluate what I am looking at!!

PS: The 1.202 is the one linked in my OP :)

I prefer the second stone you listed. I don't see any reason for spending the extra $500+. No noticeable size difference between them. Equal color. Equal eye cleanliness.

thanks, I agree. I am leaning toward the "I" colored one now in lieu of the "H" . . .

I'm just fearful because I don't know how to read/evaluate the inclusion chart in the stone report, and I also don't know how to evaluate the ASET/etc images :(

Oh my. Forgive me. I missed that the first stone is an H and the second an I color. There will be a difference in color, whether you notice it depends on you. I would still get the second stone based on my preferences, but not sure how color sensitive you are.

Okay here's another stone I am not looking at. Depending on which report dimensions you use, the stone gets an HCA from 0.7 to 2.1... However GOG did not select the stone for their "Superior" collection, and I don't understand why. Can someone take a look at the imagery and let me know what they are seeing? I believe the white on the tips of the arrows is light leakage - if that's correct then will that have a big impact on the stone's performance? Thank you!

Hearts and arrows aren't good enough for the "superior" line. The white on the tips of the arrows is perfectly normal. Nothing to worry about regarding performance.

Thanks very much for the response! Could you tell me what about the hearts and arrows is lacking? I'm trying to learn how to "read" these images better, but I think the images (H&A) for this stone look pretty good! If you think there will be no performance difference, do you consider this stone to be a good value for the $$$ ? I have noticed other stones sell for more $/carat in the AGS0 I/SI1 range such as whiteflash's top two in-house diamond ranks.

Another question: If I moved down in cut quality to like AGS1 or 2, will there be any noticeable performance differenVe in brightness or fire, etc? The reputable online retailers really seem to focus on ideal cuts so I am not sure if I could even effectively buy a stone at a lower quality without seeing it. :/ Any thoughts? Thanks!
