I am looking to get an engagement ring, where should i begin to look? I would like to stay around 1ct. Also what quality should i expect?

Hi, and welcome!

You want an excellent/ideal cut stone first of all. If you use this search tool, you''ll come up with nice stones. Put in Excellent-excellent for cut, and check GIA and AGS for labs. Then you can always post individual stone to get feedback, or just tell us your budget and people will suggest stones that meet your criteria.

You might want to look at this tutorial to help you decide on color and clarity:

Post your likes, dislikes and your budget and let these wonderful people help you find the prefect one!

I have a budget of $3000

With that budget, does that include the setting? It may be a bit challenging to find a well cut 1 carat stone for that price. However, you will likely be able to find a stone just a bit smaller. AND, if you find a well cut one, it's likely it's overall size will look much larger than you expect! Poorly cut stones commonly found in mall stores are much smaller than they should be because they typically have too much weight in the depth of the stone. This also results in a stone that isn't as pretty as a well cut one. When it's well cut, it will show sparkle and beauty from edge to edge, appearing larger than a yucky stone.

Would you be interested in putting the stone into a simple tiffany setting? There are some affordable options for a setting like that so you can use most of your budget for the stone.

Those are some nice choices! I think for the ones at $3000 or less, my preference is this one:

I''m more comfortable with the I SI1 than I am with lower color or clarity.

I love this stone! Heck, I'd take any of the ones listed. They are all gorgeous!

Cinnamon thanks for your suggestions. The ring doesn''t have to be exactly 1ct, i will take something smaller. Im not familiar with the tiffany setting, but will look into it. I think she likes the solitare and a princess cut diamond.
