Hi everyone...

Some of you know that I have been having a halo ring designed with a 1.87 J AVC as the crowning jewel. I have looked at CAD's and wax molds, and have been emailing back and forth for months!
The ring is finally done and I received a link to the photo gallery. I know that diamond photography is very difficult, and I am having a difficult time seeing some of the detail that I want to see.

Primarily... is the diamond set TOO HIGH on the halo, or is that how it should look?? Is the diamond supposed to look like it is sitting ON the halo, or IN the halo?? I know that I want to see the beautiful crown of the diamond, but I don't want it to look like the halo doesn't fit properly. I don't want to see "problems" where none exist, I just want to make sure that, after all the time and money spent, the ring is perfect!

I have requested some more photos from my designer in different lighting and angles. I just wish I could see it in person!

Any thoughts from halo experts would be greatly appreciated!!!
Here is the link to the gallery...

Where the diamond gets set in relation to the halo is a personal preference. I have seen all different proportions and they all are "right" it's just a matter of what you like and what you asked for. Was this not what you were expecting? Where was the position in the CADs?

The ring is beautiful!!!

Thank you!
And I think you may be right.. It looks different than the CAD's so I think I was expecting the diamond to sit lower.
Here is a link to my thread that shows the CAD's...

Now I just have to determine if I like it the way it is. They will have to remake the halo if I want the diamond to sit lower.

wow - a 4.25 ring size?? I'm so jealous already!!!

I think it is perfect! Your diamond has a beautiful high crown and it seems to be sitting right where I'd put it , if it were my stone. I like how the crown sits above the halo - slight airline - looking proud and perfect! Amazing claw prong work, I might add!! Its gorgeous and I think once you see it IRL, you'll probably love it more! Its so easy to obsess about every detail when it's on camera or magnified 20x that once you have it in your possession, you may not 'see' these things anymore.

I wouldn't touch a thing!

It looks to me like the girdle position is similar to the what is in the CADs. However the crown on your diamond is higher, changing the overall appearance a bit.

It depends on your preference, but the ring looks pretty!

The difference that I see between the CAD and the fabricated piece is not a difference in the rings, but a difference in the stones. In the CAD it looks like a generic cushion image with virtually no crown. The fabricated piece has your AVC with its gloriously high crown. The prongs still have to hold onto the girdle, so lowering it too much might look funny. You probably need to see another CAD before you change anything and see if they can make the CAD stone look like yours.

My personal preference is for lower set stones (because I am a klutz) but in this case the high crown looks beautiful and nicely displayed. It is a feature of your cushion and I love the look. I notice the prongs are different than the CAD. Was that a change you made?

No, I didn't change the prongs. To me, it looks like the same prongs, they are just curved upward to hold onto the much thicker crown. But nevertheless, I didn't actually specify what prongs I wanted. I just let them choose.

I think I just really need to see the ring in person. Enerchi is right, it's easy to obsess over tiny details when you are looking at something that is magnified 10-20x !!

Thanks for your feedback!

I think it looks great the height it is!

Dougsgirl - it's beautiful! And, I don't think you can make a final decision until you see it in person. They will allow you to have it changed at a later date if you are unhappy, right? I would want that baby shipped to me ASAP!

Looks perfect. I would not want my stone set lower than that.

Thanks everyone! I'm sure I am just stressing and obsessing. It's been a long journey!
I am going to have them ship me the ring and hopefully I will have it on Monday! Can't wait to see it in person!!!

I appreciate all of your feedback!

The girdle is lined up with the halo nicely, just a weensy bit above it which seems right to me.I think the stone should be set with the girdle as reference point. The high crown is part of the design of the diamond cut and is what makes the stone look so high. No way around that!
