Help: Is this a good buy???

Am shopping for an engagement ring and need some expert advice on a diamond that has caught my fancy

Table: 71%
Girdle: Slightly Thick to Thick

Color Grade: G
Fluorescence: None
Price: $4700 (before tax)

The diamond is eye clean. The table is completely clean. The only inclusions are feathers in the pavalion.
Is this a good buy?

It isn''t terribly large for the weight... so it is not hard to find diamonds of about 1 carat & the same size. Which allows higher grades for the money..

Example - 1.03 F/SI1 (GIA) and E/SI1

I wish there was more detail about the cut of these (or yours, for that matter). But that would take calling the stones in, and comparing how bright they are either against some stones known to be very good at that, or some standard. There are tools for this... and many sellers use them to select diamonds on request if you ask for it. James Allen (where the E/SI1 is listed) uses the Ideal Scope, and there are others. If brilliance matters, you might want to look a bit into the matter. Aside AGS with their relatively new cut grades for princess cuts, lab reports do not include details about this on the reports.


There aren''t too many princess diamonds with AGS cut grades and they are priced higher. Here''s one (1.2 cts, F/Si2, pictures down the link).

I want to buy a princess cut stone for my girl-friend since thats what she really likes.

My budget is under $5000 and my priorities in chosing a stone are
1) Size 2) Cut and 3) A color upto H and an eyeclean stone.
So should I chose the best cut I can afford with the largest table???
