Hi all - after reading many posts, my boyfriend and I have finally started looking at diamonds. We found one that we like, but want to make sure it is a good buy and we are not overpaying. It is a 2.57ct G SI1 ideal H&A round diamond, eyeclean, ideal cut/lightperformance/polish/symmetry. 8.81-8.84x5.44mm. Asking price: ~$32.5k

Depth: 61.5%
Table: 40.1%
Crown Angle: 34.3
Pavilion Angle: 41
Cutlet: .29%

Thanks so much for your thoughts!!

From Good Old Gold? That doesn't look like the best stone they carry; I have seen some with less light leakage and more symmetrical.

No idea on the price, but did you look at similar from the other super ideal vendors, Whiteflash and Brian Gavin? Brian Gavin is having a sale this week on D-G color diamonds, up to 9% off.

Is the table % correct? I tried to enter your stats in the HCA tool (determines if there should be good light return or not) but I'm getting a mssg that your stats would mean the girdle is "dangerously thin."

https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca Anything below a 2.0 should have great light return.

I saw that stone online. I seem to remember that it has one inclusion that is the grade maker of an SI1. Call and ask them if it is eye clean. I felt I could see the inclusion in one of the pictures of the stone.

Otherwise, it is a beautifully cut stone!

If I may clarify a correction in the initial post. The table is 55.9% instead of 40.1%. That will yield entirely different results via the HCA and will lead folks to a faulty conclusion.

The girdle is thin to medium .. perfect.

Also, while the HCA is helpful it takes a back seat to live analysis. There is no blatant light leakage that is unusual to top of the line H&A's and the hearts are all formed fine as well as being an above average, completely eye clean SI1.

That's great clarification - looks like a winner of a stone to me!!

With the information you provided, Imho the diamond is a great buy. The proportions are fantastic and the value is there. I checked a couple of sites and no red flags. Plus Gog has a great reputation. I've enjoyed watching all of their youtube videos. :geek:

Thanks so much for the clarification, Rhino!!

It's so hard to know when to pull the trigger, having only seen a few stones! I'll let everyone know how it goes!

The stone is absolutely gorgeous and a very nice size! The images are great and show NO inappropriate leakage. I have had a H&A stone from GOG before, and they are excellent!
