I would really like to propose to my girlfriend this summer. I''m looking to spend about 5000 american and would like to have an amazing diamond for an amazing girl If anyone could suggest a diamond that would sparkle for such an amazing woman it would be so much appreciated.

Is that for the entire ring or just the stone?

Also, what shape are you looking at and what spec range for the color and clarity?

Colorwise, G/H/I is a sweet spot, most will not be able to see a difference with a well cut stone, but depends on personal preference and color sensitivity. Take a look at this video. http://vimeo.com/3288695, note that this video is dependent on the display you are using so best to go out and take a look at stone that are reliably graded, such as GIA/AGS lab.

Clarity wise, SI1 eye-clean will look the same as an IF under normal viewing situation and can get you a much bigger stone for the same price.

It is cut quality which gives a diamond its beauty so very important to concentrate on that. What shape are you looking for and do you want to get the largest diamond possible for the money or would you rather high colour and clarity over size?
