Hi there...

I am planning to buy this diamond from Blue Nile in the next two days.

http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?pagename=GST%2FDispatcher&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&c=Page&cid=1355954554547&reportno=6121054203

It is a 1,51ct H colour, SI2 "eye clean" triple x diamond with a HCA score of 1.9 (depth: 61.4%, table 57%, crown angle: 34.5, pavilion angle: 41). The only issue I can see now is that it has very strong blue florescence. I have requested for Blue Nile to inspect the diamond and they said there is no negative effects of florescence like over blue or milky, hazy appearance, post inspection.

I understand some people online said this method is not reliable as Blue Nile is asking the vendor to inspect which could be bias. Just to be clear... I actually love florescence in diamonds... the glow of blue is cool! I just want to avoid the negative aspects (hazy appearance). Some people (including GIA) says this is rare, while others say it is very common. So I am not sure what to think.

Blue Nile does have a return policy but I rather get it right the first time. The GIA cert being dated April 2011...is this a red flag? As in why is this diamond not sold for that long (over 2 years since certification) or has it been returned before?

Does anyone or experts have any view on this diamond? Any advice or comments will be appreciated! Thank you!

Joe

I would want to see where those inclusions are.

Can anyone help? Would need to make a purchase decision in less than 36hours. Should I get this?

Sigh... guess I will have to go at this on my own. :((

Not enough information.

Observe it in multiple lighting environments once you get it.

If BN says that diamond is eye clean and the flo is not effecting this stone at all, I'd say go for it. Once you get the stone, get it checked by your local jeweler/ appraiser. Such companies would prefer being transparent to their customers always, else they would not get the tag of the largest online seller.

Certification of this stone does not seem to be a big concern. There are lot of stones which remain unsold for 4 to 5 years or maybe more until it finds its rightful owner.

Strong blue flo at times also compliments the low color graded diamonds.

Just saw the certificate, I'd say please do check with them once again to confirm whether the inclusions on the table are visible or not as I've seen several SI2 diamonds which has crystal inclusions in them and if you check the diamond in the day light, those crystal inclusions may appear to be slightly darker/ blackish.

The numbers seem promising, but that's about the most anyone can comment without IS/ASET images, something Blue Nile doesn't offer.

Hi BhavinJ, many thanks for your advice! I did check with BN and they have confirmed the diamond is eye clean, which means the inclusions cannot be seen face up at a distance of 6-8 inches away.

Yes... I know what you mean by the crystal may look dark as I have also checked out such inclusions from James Allen website. But given that the inclusions look relatively small (on the GIA cert), I have to go with faith that they cannot be too easily spotted with the naked eye.

In any case, I do not intend to lie to my gf and suggest that the stone has higher clarity, but only want something with inclusions that her friends cannot easily spot within a few seconds of viewing... so this might serve the purpose.

Yes... that is always a risk with Blue Nile. But I have tried searching for people with bad experiences with BN but it is quite rare. Most people had good experiences and if I compare like for like, their prices do seem more competitive. Guess that is why they are the largest.

Guess if no one can point out any flaws that I have missed out... I will have to take the leap of faith. Really hope I will not need to exercise their return policy. Keeping my fingers cross and will order within the next few hours.

Compared to MANY SI2 diamonds I have seen (online)... the inclusions on this diamond do seem relatively small. In fact, for a period of time, I gave up on SI diamonds and limited my search to only VS2 diamonds, as the SI variety really does not cut it. That is... until I saw this one.

Blue Nile just confirmed again that the diamond is eye clean. Will be placing the order by the end of the day. Thanks.

Ok... I just placed the order and will be getting my ring by the end of next week.

The diamond itself cost me $8,475, which I think is a decent price. Crossing my fingers and hoping it is not a case of "too good to be true".

Will be counting down till end of next week!! :|
