I would like to find out how to go about getting an HCA score done. We just bought a diamond that is GIA cert. 1.85 E SI2 premium cut.
7.82-7.87x4.90
Depth:62.5%
Table 59%
Girdle: MED to THK, F
Culet: None
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Fluorescence: None

And there is another diamond I''m looking at EGL cert. H VS2 1.75c
7.92-7.84x4.73
Depth 60%
Table width 58%
Crown Height 13%
Pavilion Depth 44%
Girdle thickness: thin, faceted
Ex polish and symm
no culet
very slight blue

For the first stone you would need to obtain the crown and pavilion angles (or %) first... There is enough info on the second though and the HCA score can be generated online using the Cut Adviser

The second stone gets a rather good score on the HCA, keeping in mind that results obtained using % instead of angles are less precise...

The HCA reads:
"Light Return - Very Good
Fire - Very Good
Scintillation - Very Good
Spread - Excellent
Total Visual Performance 2.3 (Very Good - Worth buying if the price is right)."

I should note that very few stones get Ex on "spread" without loosing lots on the other grades. Thsi is one attractive piece...

1st stone looks nicer.

Above is the link for the cut advisor it has a working link at the top of the rockytalky page.

Hmmm I personally would not buy either of them. You need crown and pav information for the first one to get more information though.

The first has a table and depth I don't like and the polish and symm are only Good. Also the thick girdle, hiding some weight.

The second has too wide of a range of diameter spread for my taste, and the crown and pav %'s are a little off. Plus the HCA score is over 2.0 which in my mind is not an 'excellent' cut.

I would consider the first one from information given to be a 'Good' cut and the second to be 'Better'...but neither are 'Best' IMO.
