Ok I need some help with platinum hallmarking/pricing, weight etc....
My husband has a d shaped heavyweight 6mm platinum ring (quite large in size) which weighs 7 grams...he also has a replacement ring which I weighed last night at 6.5 grams (it should be exactly the same ring!) Having researched how much a "heavy weight" platinum ring of this width should weigh, and weighing a friend''s ring which came up at 13.5 grams (!), I am now wondering if the jeweller that sold us these rings has "done us over" in that this ring should weigh far more and possibly doesn''t have the right platinum composite as claimed?
Can someone please advise what I should do? I don''t have any paperwork other than the receipts which gives a description of the ring only as platinum. My thoughts are to call the jeweller anonymously and find out what composite of platinum (sorry if my terminology is a bit off) they use for their wedding rings and also take the rings to another jeweller to try and read the hallmark???
Please please help me as to what I should do - very confused and annoyed if this is right. Or does this mean we''ve been sold an underweight ring and paid for a ring which should weigh twice as much.
Help is extremely appreciated!!!
Thank you so much in advance.
