Hi PSers,

There's an old European cut trilogy ring, total approximate 2ct old European cut diamonds, 18ct and platinum craw setting. The centre stone is estimated at 1.08ct measuring 6.4mm and the outers measure 4.6-7mm. Estimated at just under 0.50ct each. White and clean diamonds, H/I VS for the centre stone, H/I SI1 for the side stones. the spread across the stones is 16mm.

It costs about $6200, is it a good buy? :read:

Thanks a lot!

It's hard to get a sense of the facet pattern from the video. Can you post a photo?

Those aren't H diamonds. At all. The price depends on the facet pattern of the stones.

If you copy/paste the link underneath the video, and browse the site you can see some still images. Unfortunately, the images aren't that good. There aren't enough head-on shots to really see enough, IMO.

thanks, I found it's quite hard to take a clear picture... here are some pictures, hopefully they give a better idea for the facet pattern

thanks, Lyds

It looks very pretty but there isn't enough detail provided in the video. If you purchase it, can you return - is there a good return policy with this vendor? Is it eBay? do they have good feedback?

I'd go that route, but if you can't return it, I'd want a LOT more photos at a lot of angles and on white background. Ask for stills and comparables of other diamonds??? Is it certified?

Thanks Enerchi,

it has 7days return policy. The vendor seems like an honest lady according to her feedbacks. However, I felt slightly disappointed to see there's a dark spot in the left side stone and a few very small ones in the centre and the other side stones. I understand it's natural stone but she didn't mention it before the sell. It is not certified.

I don't think she will be happy if I return the ring (like any other seller) and I grow to like the imperfections of the ring. I just hope I'm not paying a silly amount of money, I know it won't be like a bargain deal on eBay, but is it a fair price? (please be honest and give me some comments, thanks)

I'm unsure if I should get a insurance valuation, so I'll be able to know the specification of the stones.

Thanks, Lyds

hokay, as someone who is doing a three stone project, with old cuts, my opinion is...

Do you like it AS IS? Because if you do, I don't think it's a bad buy and I don't think it's a steal. If you were to put together a 3 stone modern cut ring with those specs, carat wise, it'd cost you a lot more. Even if you were to buy old cuts preloved here, it's a matter of finding matches, and people are selling them higher than the deals you can find on ebay. And then you'd have to pay for a setting.

Singlestone was selling a 1.3ish center with rounds about half the carat weight for $6800. It was modern cuts though (and not excellent cuts), in a simple gold setting. So that's why I don't think yours is a steal. But again, if you like the setting and the stones, then I think it's not bad.

If you are going to scrap the setting and reset, then no, I don't think it's anywhere close to a deal for the stones itself.

There was a ring I posted in my thread (that a PSer bought, but I don't know what she bought it for) where it was a 14K WG setting with stones similar in size (although the center was smaller at .97 and the sizes bigger at .60ish). He put the first bid on ebay for $2900, and still ran it multiple times before it finally sold (the stones were gorgeous). If someone were to keep the ring as is, that would have been a good deal.

And I think your ring is pretty!!!

Thanks travellingal! I really like its original setting :) and it's one of the reason why I bought it. Thanks for your advice! And I've just realised it's not old European cut diamond, it seems more like the old English cut

After sleeping on it, what are you thinking now, LydiaC? Are you just as madly in love? any buyers remorse?

For me, I find that a night sleep helps to clarify a decision for me. I either am totally madly in love more than ever, or somehow realize, "nope - not for me". Weird! Must all happen in my subconscious mind! How are you feeling?

Hey Enerchi! I think I do like the ring, I wouldn't say I'm madly in love with it. I felt the setting is really pretty but it seems quite fragile. I don't think I can wear it everyday. To be honest, I thought about returning it but I worried the seller's attitude would change. I don't like conflicts or "wasting someone's time". So I hesitate to return the ring. It's like a lesson for me - buying a ring online by viewing photos and video isn't good enough. (at least for me)

It will take a long while for me to save up now! Hope I find my dream trilogy ring in the future :) please share your tips for getting a good price diamond ;)

I would return it if you're not 100% happy - that's why the seller provided you with a return policy. It's business. Simple. Are you worried because you would like to purchase something else from that seller in the future?

Lydia, I really think that if you're not in love with this ring, you should return it. It's an expensive item. The seller has a return policy and there's nothing wrong with using it. If she didn't want people to return items she shouldn't offer one! I'm not quite understanding why you're so worried about her reaction

Please don't feel you have to keep something because an anonymous internet seller might be unhappy. This is your money - and a lot of it I might add! - that you should LOVE LOVE LOVE the ring. It doesn't sound that way at all. Don't "punish" yourself by keeping it if it is not the right one for you. REturn it - it has that return option - and let another person fall in love with it. There is a buyer and a seller out there for everything....

Please return it!

Thanks everyone! I'll have a deep think tonight and make a decision in the morning. The ring is very pretty, even I'm not madly in love with it. I really really like the delicate setting! have a good day everyone

I went to a local jewelry today to check the craws and they helped me to clean my ring. Only then I realise how beautiful and sparkling the ring is, I'm very very happy and will definitely keep it and don't need to think about having another one. I can't believe how big the difference is with the cleaning, and I'll surely keep it in a nicer condition from now on :)

Thanks PSers, Lyds

That's awesome news Lydia! It is surprising what a good cleaning can do to a ring - so glad you are now in love and feel good about the purchase. Yippee!!
